So what kind of ring tones do you fine ladies and gentlemen have?
I've had the 56k dial up tone for awhile and I'm currently making another one in Audacity with a bunch of Star Trek TNG samples.
Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnndd go.

My best friend uses the TNG red alert for incoming family calls. I use a standard ring tone for incoming calls, but I use the Metal Gear codec sound for text messages.
Till I got sick of it, I used a 10 second loop I made in FL. Now I use this:
oSXnYdgutpk
LiquidRain

I generally use Beatmania loop music for my call ringtones and the original 60s Doctor Who theme for work related calls.
For SMS, though, I've used a variety:
- Midna's ditty from Twilight Princess (when you call her to appear)
- BONK!
- A scream from the medic when killed by a crit
- Various clips from Portal's turrets
- Crackdown orb sound

Chev Chelios's ringtone from Crank.
GigaFuzz

Monkey Island theme for the ringtone (it works wonderfully if you edit out the beginning) with the loot sound from Thief being used for the SMS tone.

Man, I need good FREE ringtones. :( Where do you guys get yours...or do you just make them?
Right now I have one I created. It's 20 second portion of The Pot by Tool.
Chev Chelios's ringtone from Crank.
Where did you find that? I went looking for it shortly after Crank came out but couldn't find it.

SMS = Neil Patrick Harris saying, "Balls." I stole the idea from someone else on this forum when we were discussing Dr. Horrible.
Normal ring = "Brand New Day" excerpt also from Dr. Horrible.
Family = "I need some whiskey, please." A loop I made from Ida Maria's song, "Queen of the World."
Ballad of Serenity for everyday calls.
Starlight by Muse for when the girlfriend calls.
Imperial March for when my mom or my boss calls.
Zelda secret sound for voicemails.
Transformers transformation sound for texts.

My son laughing. What I most like about it, actually, is that it starts in very quietly and gradually gets a little bit louder, so it's quite unobtrusive.

Right now they're set like this:
General - Raider's March
Brother - Gears of War theme
Dad - The organ music that played on the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at Disney World.
Text/Message Notify - Crackdown Agility Orb sound

I just open up an audio file (phones take .mp3), and edit out unnecessary parts in Audacity and email (555-555-5555)@vzwpix.com. Save as ringtone. Presto. File size limit is usually under 350KB.

I do think it is free, aside from the Verizon fee for getting a text.

This is my ringtone for text messages/e-mail.

Some generic ringing thing for my calls. Been contenplating 'It ain't easy bein' white...'
Grifter

I use the 1812 Overture for my Mom, Sister and Brother.
The Top Gun theme song for my dad,
one of the songs from Fall Out 3 for my Grandparents
and then a mix of a remixed version of the Mirrors Edge theme, a song from team Fortress, a couple cuts of the BSG intro song, a south park clip, The Jokers laugh from The Dark Knight and this East Indian sounding song for the rest of my friends.

I've been using the incoming codec sound from Metal Gear Solid for a while now.

I use vibrate for almost everything. I hate ring tones. The only time I have one on is when I'm not going to have my phone on me but near by. Then I use a default Blackberry ringtone called Calypso. Whenever someone hears it they assume it's from Super Mario Bros.

Call My Name by Prince for my fiance's calls.
All others the beginning of Back in Black by AC/DC.
Or... Sometimes an old phone ring sound when I get tired of AC/DC.

"I try" by Macy Grey

My ringtone is the eyecatch sound from Full Metal Panic (probably Fumoffu).
I have the "Sleep" music from FFX for an alarm sound.

Whatever the least girly-sounding of the default ringtones is for the Sanyo Katana.

I have a few, since my old phone is so old and crappy. The one I use for most calls from the Skies of Arcadia soundtrack, Ramirez's theme.

Same here. Previously it was "Never Gonna Give You Up" (for proximity RickRolling), but I got tired of people not getting the joke and questioning my sexuality.

You're so funny.
My best friend uses "I Am Superman" by The Academy Is... for when I call, sometimes he switches to "Gladiator" by Common. With school and theatre and stuff my phone is always on silent or vibrate; I haven't used a ring in years.

To be fair, if I ever heard that as someone's ringtone I'd play it off like I had no idea what it was.
Then after I questioned their sexuality I might stab them in the back of the head.

You know you could just edit the file in Audacity, render it to a 64kb MP3 (it'll suffice for a ringtone) and transfer it to the phone via USB. Unless you have the rare phone that doesn't have USB in some form.

Megaman 2 Intro for my generic ringtone. Yakety Sax for my dad, the Dayman song (out of Always Sunny in Philadelphia) for my brother, Ridin' Spinnas for a friend of mine. I've got a few others I can't remember off the top of my head.

Not if you have a verizon phone. The process he posted is the only way to do custom ringtones on verizon phones. Their smartphones may be different though.

I ripped a short line out of the Weird Al movie, "UHF." The part where his girlfriend, Terrie, is upset with him and not taking his calls, she is sitting by the phone listening to him talk into the answering machine. He goes on and on, but at one point loses it and says, "Pickup the phone! Pickup the phone! Oh! Ooooh! I'm in hell! Terrie!!!!" I looped the "Pickup the phone! Pickup the phone! Oh! Ooooh!" part. It is always good for a laugh, and my daughter thinks it is hilarious.
Check the 9:07 minute mark.

My calls are just a ringing noise, nothing special. I can't stand people blaring crappy music in confined spaces, most songs just don't work as not annoying ringtones so I don't even bother trying.
Till I got sick of it, I used a 10 second loop I made in FL. Now I use this:

That's from Guilty Gear?! That's the sound it makes when you die in I Wanna Be The Guy! I might need to use that for text messages and change it from the crappy quality achievement unlocked badoop that I have now.
For awhile I had my alarm as Navi's "HEY, LISTEN!" at the advice of best buddy Abyssion. That's good for making sure you get it before it wakes any of the roommates up to strangle you.

The IWBTG save file select screen, first screen (with the spike walls) and the death music are all from Guilty Gear XX.
For ease of searching:
Save File Select - Hunt A Soul
First Screen - Home Sweet Grave
Death Music - Might is Right But Tight
Also, "Press "R" To Try Again" haunts me in my nightmares.

Indeed it does. I got into the habit of hitting R before I died just because that music is laughing at you. Taunting your failures. Drilling your inadequacies through your mind with dentistry tools. Good game.

I have various hip-hop and dancehall instrumentals that I have looped. I switch once a week or so.
Stuff like this:
KwdaU7rfowo
YQCXsZMGB4c
O7Bc1mcYN_g

This thread is inspiring me to get some video game themed hotness, though. I'm going to hunt down the SSB: Brawl theme and the Earthworm Jim music in the level "What the Heck".
Also, you can download the sound out of youtube videos into mp3 format. No reason why anyone should have to pay for ringtones.

Try having it as a ringtone and supressing the urge to shout "Fuck!" every time you hear it.
Still not finished IWBTG.

I used to have this as my ringtone:
WLLE_PvJ5mY
With the get-item jingle from the same as my message tone.
Before that it was:
H-kqzc4gcnw
With the get-item sound form the same as my message tone.
Before that it was Banana Phone...*cough*
It's not really worth me having different ring-tones for different people, since I tend to communicate almost exclusively by .txt message, so if it rings, it's almost certainly an unknown caller. I've yet to own a phone that lets me assign different message tones to different people, though that would be very useful for me.
I can't link to my current ringtone though. It doesn't exist on the internet. I'm so exlusive . Also my crappy Samsung doesn't do custom message tones (or alarm) and the four it has literally hurt to listen to, so that is just set to vibrate.
Dayman song (out of Always Sunny in Philadelphia) for my brother
I approve :D

Well, someone was bound to post this eventually. But in reality the sound of a phone ringing is somewhere between grating a baby with a cat and your child crying inconsolably on the unpleasantness scale. The only excuse for this noise to occur was technological limitations. And really by that, I mean it should have gone away once phone no longer generated their ring mechanically.
Of course, this doesn't excuse the aural assaults most people use their ringtone for.

You know, it's not obnoxious ringtones I take issue with, it's every idiot who goes around blasting their music from their phone without a set of headphones. I personally don't need to hear other music when I'm on the train or bus.

I don't know why. I know I want my music played back at the lowest possible quality. And sounding like it's been filtered through a rectum.

Since I can make unlimited free ringtones for my Blackberry, I have:
General Ringtone: The Entertainer
My Wife: Bridge Over the River Kwai
Buddy 1: Back in Black
Buddy 2: Jessica (Top Gear Theme)
Buddy 3: I Can't Stop Loving You (Michael Jackson, long story why)
Any Supervisor: The Imperial March
Generic cops: Theme from COPS
Generic deputies: Theme from The Dukes of Hazzard
Cop who used to be a highway patrol officer: Highway Patrol by Junior Brown
Motor cop who looks a lot like the T1000: Terminator 2 theme
Down home country boy cop: Dueling Banjos
My Dad (former Vietnam chopper pilot): Fortunate Son
My parents' home phone: The Godfather (so I know it's family business)
My cousin (pilot): Top Gun
Cop who loves the song: Black Betty
Cop who plays violin: A Bach Partita in E
There are still some more I am going to make. I have a Still Alive one but even at a high volume it's hard to hear and amplifying it makes it worse.
