I want to play my movies on my 360,because its the only DVD player I have connected to my TV, but can't because 360 is region 1 and DVD's are region 2. I wanna make DIVX copies. What you guys recommend.

DVD decrypter and Nero. It's all you need.

I like Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) best for making DVD rips to the hard drive.

If that doesn't do it for you, you might check out these recent posts on LifeHacker for other good solutions:

I run AnyDVD (decrypts the DVD on the fly) and use Handbrake to rip to mkv format. (h264 video, AC3 audio).

Handbrake has an Xbox360 profile built in. Try that.

I tried Handbrake. Accidentally selected the commentary track instead of the movie track. Thanks anyway.

I use AnyDVD, but how can I decrypt movies on the fly? It would certainly reduce the encoding time in half.

I use anydvd for Blu-Ray playback, and Handbrake for my ipod. Haven't ever had a good regular rip with handbrake that was watchable on another system.

It should do it on the fly automatically, not sure though. And since everyone is putting it out there, Handbrake is great and so is a piece of software called DVDShrink.

It does do it on the fly. Well again the video encoded ok but there was no audio, will check Handbrake help.

Why not just rip to wmv with wmp11 and then stream to the 360?

Because WMV is the devil.

Because WMV is the devil.

...and does not support any of the divx certified DVD players, which my father owns.

I found out what the problem was. AC3 audio and H264 do not work with .mp4 videos. Ofcourse, they work with mkv, which is a great format supported by nobody :(

Xvid FTW!!!

H.264 + AAC for proper MP4.

I will try this Handbrake you speak of.

What other program do you need, and why?

AnyDVD (http://slysoft.com) save's around 30% of the time by decrypting your DVD from your DVD drive. All other decrypters decrypt and copy to your hard drive, which takes a lot of time.
