While we here at Colony of Gamers are mostly focused on the gaming we - like all of you - have other interests. Movies, music, technology, science and in this case comic books. While the superlative In Game Chat (http://www.ingamechat.net/) will be your Number 1 stop for gaming radio, the hosts of Johnny Gigawatt & the Tiger Men from Mars (http://www.johnnygigawatt.com) - Sam Bambino, Kip Casanova and myself, the Funk Doctor - strive to be the best comic podcast on Earth. Every Tuesday night we'll post our new episode, which will also serve as CoG's Comic Day thread: a place to discuss what you're going to be snagging from your local comic shop each week. We also give you a Question of the Week as a way to jump start the conversation. I hope all of you come on over to the discussion thread (http://the%20discussion%20thread) and join the fun.
This week, on the rejuvenated Johnny Gigawatt & the Tiger Men from Mars (http://johnnygigawatt.com): The Bendis/Kirkman knife fight, endings and beginnings, Adam West's role in Watchmen and Zombified Robot Velociraptors.
Wow. I knew October would be a five week month, and therefore stretched a little thin, but this is pretty ridiculous. For a look at what you'll find in stores this week, head over to Diamond's new release list (http://previewsworld.com/public/default.asp?t=2&m=1&c=6&s=428)
DC
Batman #680
Justice League Of America #25
Manhunter #35
Nightwing #149
Trinity #18
Marvel
Cable #7
Indie
Boys #23
Invincible #53
Zero-G #1
Picks of the Week
Batman #680 - While I'm not sure Batman RIP could possibly live up to the hype surrounding it, it's still entertaining as hell. The Black Glove, the Club of Villains and the Batman's breakdown make for a compelling story, although I'm still not convinced that the changes DC is promising will be as all-encompasing as they are teasing them to be.
Zero-G #1 - A light week like this is a great time to try out some titles from the smaller publishers, and this one from Image looks intriguing. A space shuttle streaks towards an asteroid that's supposed to be chock full of precious resources, only it has fewer 'resources' and more 'crazy death'. Oh yeah, and it's headed towards the Earth, too.
Question of the Week - It's a very light week, and like I said that's the best time to try out some of the lesser known books out there. So this week I ask: what's you're favorite small publisher book?

Ah... HERE we are.
DC
BLUE BEETLE TP VOL 04 ENDGAME <--- POTW!
Marvel
PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL #24
Wow.. you weren't kidding. Good thing I have last week's comics to get too. And maybe a manga or two. Stupid manga...
Heck... I'd be tempted to get that Silent Hill omnibus. Are the Silent Hill comics any good?
QOTW: Hmm... I haven't been getting as many small publisher books as I used to (most of the ones I read just seem to have ended or gone on hiatus) but The Nightly News was one of the most impressive of late. Sadly, I have missed the first issue launches of all of Hickman's other books (Pax Romana and the other one...) so I haven't had a chance to read them, but I'll hopefully get them in trade when/if they hit trade format.
And again, you have The Boys up there in your list but I don't see it anywhere on Diamond's page. I know it'll be out and I'm getting it, but I don't see it on Diamond so I won't put it in my official list :)

Eternals #5
Marvel Apes #3 (of 4)
Punisher War Journal #24 SI

Red Mass for Mars #2 (of 4)
Comic book day, on the birthday when I outlive Cobain, Joplin and Hendrix? Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
PotW #1: Red Mass for Mars #2
It's a long time coming (more than 3 months, I think) but the second in this four issues series is here! Is pre-apocalyptic sci-fi fun, with yet another take on super heroes. I like any series that ends with Earth's most powerful being telling the person trying to save it to beg for his help. Really hoping this can get back on track.
PotW #2: Marvel Apes #3
Vampire apes who beat and eat their prey. And now they're heading to Earth 616 to find more food! It's no Ambush Bug, but Marvel is doing a pretty decent job of lampooning itself and the story is fun. I mean, not grade A (it's no Nextwave) but I'm liking it.
QotW
My favorite indie book right now... hmmmm... probably Cthluhu: Godwar. Used to be Call of Cthulhu, but with a "pretend" #1 it's moving along just well with all of the folks we saw way back in its first issue. I'm a Cthulhu fan to begin with, but here, Michael Alan Nelson is expanding the mythos well. I do miss those Patrick McEvoy covers, though.
Doc - new site... why not be epic and start over with week 1? :D An "Issue Zero", if you will?
I second this!

If you haven't, grab Fullmetal Alchemist. Sooooo fun, and by vol. 6 you're past pretty much everything in the cartoon series. More or less. ;) Great stuff.

Umm, because I write this post in a template and forgot to change it :oWhat we need here is a little revisionist history :)
I bought my first superhero book this week (Iron Man: Extremis) and I am in love. Still a bit scared of the comics section at the bookstore, though :o

Mwahaha. You're going to be eaten alive, girlie!
Just kidding. When I started joining the comic conversations a few years back, I was one of those lapsed comic book fans who probably hadn't read a graphic novel or comic book since the late 90's. Now they've become my literature of choice, which is both awesome and sad.
I like the conversations around here because they're knowledgeable enough to explain something as convoluted as Final Crisis but newbie-friendly enough to ease people like yourself (and me, a few years ago) into the wide world of graphic novels and comic books.
Oh, Sazime, I'm currently addicted to Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service and Parasyte. I'm also starting to read Naruto and Sgt. Frog, but the first two are just great manga. I just started reading this crazy backwards comic stuff a few weeks ago and am kind of kicking myself for being so stubborn and resisting their siren's call for so long.

I recently just got into reading comics, myself. I'd always read through the Comic Day threads at the old site to see what sounded interesting.
Then I just wandered into my local store one day to waste some time, and ended up buying The Watchmen. Then I went in again, and walked out with The Walking Dead trade #1. Now I just keep going back for TWD, and this last time I picked up Preacher books 2 & 3 (after reading 1 a couple months ago). Good times. :)

I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about Ennis after reading all of Preacher, and then, say, anything else he's written. I think Preacher (which I loved) was about the only book of his I really liked.

I'll definitely let you know. Last time I was in the shop, the owner told me to check out "The Boys" (written by Ennis as well) and I think I'll check that out, then see if I can quantify the differences. :D

Not my fault everything you people read sucks :p
Mind you, Way's second issue of Deadpool was... inspired. He ideas... pity it's all he has.

We can handle Savok's poor taste.
I haven't read the second issue of Deadpool yet but I am still happy with Way's take on the character. He's not quite as awesome as under Fabian, but he hasn't been transformed into something awful...

I can't stand the multiple voices or the hallucination crap. But for the idea alone.... it almost rivals Deadpool #11, would be its equal if Way executed it better.
