Later than I thought it'd be, but I guess people who buy back-to-school machines will get vouchers for a free upgrade.

Awesome. Less than 5 months away. I should be able to hold off on my new build until then.

Easier to do if you keep your programs and your data separate, which is the model I've moved to on all our home machines.

Easier to do if you keep your programs and your data separate, which is the model I've moved to on all our home machines.I'm still running the Beta on a second drive (XP on first). Haven't messed with the RC yet.

I know reinstalls aren't a huge deal...but I'm lazy.

Definitely what I'm going to do. My home Vista machine is giving me fits with some driver issues, so it's time to reinstall...may as well put W7 RC on there.

I'd really love to have it around $100.

I'd really love to have it around $100.I'm hoping I can get Win7 Professional full retail for <$200.

(Vista Home Premium SP1 full retail is $224.99 on Newegg right now, so not sure how likely this will be.)

I'm running the RC on this computer right now. I keep forgetting to install it on my netbook.

I was expecting this around Christmas. Good to know it'll be here sooner than that.

On another note, I'm wondering how feasible it would be for Vista users to switch to Windows 7. I can't say paying full price for the OS will be worth it, if you're a Vista user.

I've been on XP Pro all along, and only recently made the jump to Win 7 RC. My experience with Vista has been limited to brief flirtations on other people's machines and the occasional screenshot and Win 7 doesn't seem to be too different except for some cosmetic changes (the new taskbar and Aero Peek).

So for those who've used Vista and are trying out Win 7 now, do you think paying full price would be worth it?

Are there any other major differences that I've missed?

Best Buy memo details Windows 7 some upgrade pricing (http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/06/05/best-buy-memo-details-windows-7-upgrade-plans.aspx)

The Technology Guarantee program begins June 26, allow customers who purchase a PC between that date and "the Windows 7 launch day" to get a free copy of Windows 7.
The Technology Guarantee program also covers individual software purchases of Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate. I believe this is new info.
On June 26, you will be able to pre-purchase some Windows 7 versions. Pricing is includes $49.99 for Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade and $99.99 for Windows 7 Professional Upgrade.

So to get in on the free upgrade program, wait until June 26 to buy (new Vista PC or OS copy). Assuming other retailers will be going off the same date...

I'm curious about the presell program. They're going to be pre-selling Win7 Home Premium Upgrade for $50? (For a limited time.) I wonder if there are any strings attached to this. Or when they actually charge you for it (on preorder or on shipment).
