Just out of curiosity - approximately how many albums have you purchased within the last six months? A year? What would you guess the average price of those albums combined were? Any particular notable albums you'd like to share?
Annnnnnnnddd go.
I've been listening to this band (http://www.last.fm/music/Belong)'s record for about a month non-stop and I finally bought it. The band is called Belong and the album is called October Language. I'll just c/p this from my other post. It really is a great album, I hope some of you check it out.

Belong's October Language. Noisy ambient/shoegaze-ish type stuff. A monumental album to listen to in a dark room with a good pair of headphones without disturbances from life. Odd track titles, but the album's fantastic. A bit similar to My Bloody Valentine.
User review at Discogs:
I've never heard anything like this... It's like the sound, if a sound could be applied to such, of dying and being transported to an afterlife; noise and ethereal melodies collide chaotically in a blurry, boundless environment of such unbelievable scope and scale...
I believe that most of the 'melodies' on this album were produced with spectacularly overprocessed and overdriven guitars; it's like hearing 4AD in middle of a hurricane!
'October Language' is a must-hear for those open minded enough to be receptive to it's incredible beauty.

One release that's on my to-purchase is Do Make Say Think's 1998 self titled record. Cool music just to zone out to, yeah.

Last Lights - No Past, No Present, No Future
http://new.merchnow.com/images/12910/469x470.jpeg
Dominic Mallary, their singer died tragically earlier this year and this is their final release, which is a compilation of everything they released.
Dominic was the primary songwriter and lyricist of Last Lights and his passing has been widely felt throughout the punk/hardcore scene. Nearly a thousand faces were present at his memorial services, including a performance by Andrew WK (at special request of Dominic). Dominic's life and music represented his devotion to Last Lights and the underground culture.
They were a great band that were on the road to be a greatly influential and prominent group within hardcore.

OH MODERN WORLD
oh modern world, you've got me down
you've sucked the soul out of this sound
you've given every crook a crown
and silenced songs you couldn't drown
oh modern world, I can't keep time
I'm falling behind every line
I'm forcing my words into rhymes
with meanings that were never mine
I really love his lyrics and I will miss this band. Give them a shot.
Earth Crisis' new record 'To The Death'. Straight Edge legends returned.

PAVEMENT AHHHH

One of my favorite albums of all time. I recently bought the super-deluxe-fifty-track-loaded-with-b-sides-and-instrumentals-and-live-tracks version.

My sentiments exactly. Nothing really makes this any difference than the "What are you currently listening to thread."
And many of the "post what you've been buying" threads tend to die out quickly.

Been listening to Heroes and Low by Bowie quite a bit. I thought I had Aladdin Sane and Iggy Pop's The Idiot on my ipod, but apparently not. Now I really want to listen to both of those.

Oh, I've been listening to the Star Trek score. That shit was half the awesomeness of the movie.

I've probably gotten around 10-13 albums this year, and nearly every one of them has been utterly excellent.
The one I'd recommend right now is Allenrok by Estopa. It's one of the best albums I've ever heard, just got it a couple weeks ago. It experiments with a lot of genres, but some of the near-constants are heavy rock and roll and a strong Spanish influence. If I were to introduce the album, I'd probably start with this song:
petLGu1teKc
There is so much ingenious variety on the album, however, that just one song doesn't do it justice.

Beck - Modern Guilt
Ah, I love Beck. I enjoy that album. To be honest, though, I love pretty much anything Danger Mouse touches.
Wilco - Wilco (The Album)
Peter Bjorn & John - Living Thing
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Danger Mouse - Dark Night of the Soul
bonus - Jaydiohead
You are very good.
