This is the thread to discuss the happenings at the Microsoft Press Conference on Monday, June 1st at 10:30am PT. This thread will be closed until right before the conference starts.
This thread will run much like last year where I will be updating as the presser goes on. Feel free to discuss about your feelings in this thread.
Below is also Scott's (Psykoboy2) live Twitter Feed (http://www.twitter.com/coge3) as well as the general CoG Twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/colonygamers) that Mike (DoctorFinger) will be updating live. Feel free to leave this specific post (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?p=271226) in one window and follow the rest of the thread (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=8975) in another window so you can get maximum coverage from the staff.
These feeds will be absent from the thread itself a bit after the presser is done so as not to confuse people on what the live Tweets are covering. My own predictions of what will be shown is in the next post.

My predicitions at the EA Presser
1. EA doesn't ever really surprise.
2. Dante's Inferno, Mass Effect 2, The Saboteur, Dragon Age: Origins, the EA Sports titles, the Need for Speed titles, Dead Space Extraction (Wii), etc. will all be shown. Do I expect any surprise game announcements? Not really.
3. The other Madden online announcement outside of the 2-player online co-op one.
4. May announce and show off use of Microsoft motion peripheral in future sports games or family games.

press conference...as in the people that are going to tell the general public what games are coming. This isn't for gamers. E3 hasn't been soley about the hardcore for years.

I'd like to applaud their choice to gloss over the lame stuff early on... I'm hyped about a lot of EA games (well Bioware games and Saboteur/Dante's Inferno). Microsoft started off with a bang and went out with a whimper, EA started a little weak but ended off strong.

Agreed, and I think EA's conf came out looking stronger because of it.
DoctorFinger
06-01-2009, 04:22 PM
I don't like the shitty girls games at the beginning, but there were a bunch of games there I want. And the EA Sports stuff, while not my cup of tea, is going to be a big deal for a lot of other people.
Vigil80

EA definitely had the better constructed presentation. The beginning stuff had to have been included for the benefit of stockholders.

The Madden 10 Online Franchise video was great, even though I don't plan on getting Madden 10. Would have liked to see some more NHL 10, though.
The cinematic at the end was a great finish.

Having the girly stuff in the beginning and the good games at the end seems like a better structure. After EA's conference I'm thinking about Star Wars, after Microsoft's conference I'm thinking about full-body waggle.
Rogue_hunter
06-01-2009, 04:42 PM
I agree, EA had the overall better ending. All the fluff/investor stuff at the beginning, all the sports and hardcore games in the middle and end. I'm surprised Valve wasn't there to talk about anything, and it was disappointing that Crytek was just there to say "Crysis 2 on consoles and PC" and show art.
Vigil80
06-01-2009, 04:48 PM
Yeah, the Crytek presentation - more like a live commercial - definitely left me with a "that's it?" feeling. Why did they take the time to fly that guy out and put him on stage?
At any rate, Crytek on consoles feels like pretty big news. I'd definitely believe they would be the ones to put the squeeze on console capabilities.

I'm going to guess they flew him in because it is probably playable on the floor tomorrow.
