I'm starting up a game right now. It's called "ColonyOfGamers" and password is "cogtq".
Anyone interested in getting some games going, let's go. I'm creating a new character right now.

For whatever reason, I had never added you as a friend in Steam. Whenever I tried to add "violent" it would add some other guy. I looked up your real handle here and added you as a friend prior to sending the message, so that might be why it never showed up. It is a duplicate of what I wrote above, so you didn't miss much. :)

Pick Warfare & Dream classes, max out the Phantom Strike and assosciated skills, then watch everyone hate you for killing everything before they get a chance. :D
In all seriousness though, it can be a little daunting. You should probably try and decided what kind of character you want: fast and lethal melee; strong and tough melee (i.e. tank), caster; pet master (get your pets to do that hard work for you), etc...

Titan Quest doesn't really have 2H melee weapons, it prefers maces, axes, short swords and spears for the most part. You can either dual-wield (but really only if you spec into it) or grab a nice shield. Warrior and Defence are good starting points (some of the Defence shield bask type attacks are great fun). If you fancy spears, Hunting gives you lots of nice skills for that.
A lot of the other seemingly non-melee classes do offer some nice bonuses for melee types though, such as weapon enchants to do fire or storm damange, buffs that help you and the rest of the party, maybe some Area of Effect damage, but I'd recommend picking Warfare, Defence or Hunting (spears) first as a melee class.

Spears sound interesting. I like dual-wield, but shields have never appealed to me much. Possibly because I can never get the hang of using the bloody things IRL.
So Violent and I are going to jump on TQ here in a couple of minutes. If any of you are interested in a TQ run tonight IM Violent or I on Steam.
I do have a Raid in WoW tonight, but that wont take more than an hour, so there's plenty of time to play today.

I tried having Steam download both the original at the expansion at the same time before I left for work and it looks like that caused the install to mess up at some point for the expansion.

You need to run Titan Quest (the original) first, let it play the cutscene etc and get to the main menu. Then I think you can quit out and start Immortal Throne.
We are switching to Ventrilo for our VoIP. My clans Vent is mostly empty so we are using that for now. I don't want to post the info up on the forums so IM me via steam for that.

Oh joy, after an hour or so of downloading and installing Skype, just for it to fuck up my PC, and uninstall it and do a system restore. :P

Why not just use the Steam chat? It seemed good enough. Granted, I couldn't join your game so I have no idea how well it actually works while playing.

Steam chat is a bit shotty tbh. Vent is much clearer.

Whenever I tried to join the server, it would insist that my version was not the same as the one of the host, even though I'm not using any patches. You guys aren't using ANY patches, right? Not even a camera one? Just making sure.

We are probably in the latest patch since we are all using the Steam or Gametap version. We are not using any mods or special patches.

Just had great fun with Hap, Violent and Giga. Got my character up to just shy of level 10 and I'd never played it before. Can't wait to play again.

If anyone's having some problems with TQ, and they're on Vista/7, try running Steam in Administrator mode, it's helped some of the problems I'm having. Do bear in mind though that TQ's net code for connecting is pretty damn shoddy. You'll likely get a bunch of crashes and 'Unable to connect' messages before actually being able to join a game. Keep plenty of goats handy for sacrifice.

Oh, of course. Same here, but I wasn't sure if that was universal or not. It's so annoying having all these connection issues, as once you get into a game it's generally perfectly fine.

I played for a few hours tonight just to see if I could connect through this connection. Worked fine, albeit a bit laggy. We did a bunch of telkine runs for loot, made it up to lvl 44 as well.
For tonights game, i would like to set a roster. There can only be 6 people tops in one game . I say this because of an increase in interest in playing. So if you are interested Post here, PM me, or Send me an IM via Steam. We will be using my clans Ventrilo server for VoIP. The characters that we are playing are around level 10-16 so be sure to level up!
I am thinking of starting at around 1PM PST (4PM EST) so you guys are welcome to join us at the beginning of the session or whenever.

I just picked up titan quest gold from steam. Anyone else having a problem with no sound during the intro? Once the intro is done the sound kicks in. Weird.

I'd love to play with you guys, but I have to run the 1.18 fanpatch. For some reason, on my Vista 64 install, whenever a sound plays (example, I hit someone with my sword) there's a slight hiccup in the game. I'm told the fanpatches fixed that - unless you guys know of another solution.
I am running as admin.

I might have to recommend the fan patch to everyone anyway. Once you get into Act 4 there are some serious slowdown issues to do with some of the effects that can render the game almost unplayable. The fan patch fixes this.

In all seriousness, that's certainly possible. We've had games where he had to keep changing hosts until we could find one which everyone could connect to. It wouldn't always be the same host each time, either. I'm not sure what can be done, as port forwarding and hamachi haven't improved things at all in my experience.

I have just recently installed the fan patch. Is it known if that is supposed to improve compatibility issues? At the very least, I'd be interested in trying to join up with you guys again if you are all game for the patch.

Thanks J, I'll give that a try. My paladin is lvl 21 and a lot of fun to play.
I think the only compatibility issue is that 1.17 users can see 1.1 users, but get an error when trying to connect.

I attempted to play titan quest using hamachi and found through some internet drudging that you may have better success, as I did, using real old versions of hamachi. I have no idea why, but downgrading quite a few versions allowed me to finally get a 3 person hamachi game going.

I don't remember who I was talking to about this game the other day, but I'd like to start playing this... I was unaware that TQ and TQIT are the same game, with a new campaign added on, so I'm trying to import my character from TQ to IT.
And I'd like to finish up the game. Anyone else playing this now?

There's an Import button on the New Game screen.
