Quite a bit for download this week, though a lot of it is just DLC. There are 2 full games and a..... well, I don't know what LiS is, but you get that too. Here's the full list from the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/09/playstation-store-update-55/):
PS3:
Qore Episode 5 ($2.99 for episode)
Linger in Shadows ($2.99)

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars ($14.99)
Warhawk Demo
Hot Shots Golf Fall Fashion Line ($2.99)
Dead Space Obsidian Suit (Free)
Dead Space Scorpion Suit ($2.49)

FIFA 09 Ligue 1 French Pack ($6.99)
FIFA 09 Primera Division De Mexico Pack ($6.99)

PSP:
Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow (UMD Legacy) ($24.99)
Guilty Gear Judgement (UMD Legacy) ($5.99)
echochrome level pack add-on ($4.99)
That's kinda odd timing on the Warhawk demo, given the game came over a year ago. I'm pretty curious about Linger In Shadows, it's an odd thing. For $3, it's tempting.
Guilty Gear on the PSP is a steal for $6 though, that's definitely one to consider.

Wow, those premium themes on there are ridiculous. $1.50 - $2.00 for pictures of puppies or college logos. Talk about a racket. On the plus side, there are some free Fallout 3 themes that look quite nice.
Anybody tried Linger in Shadows? Is it worth picking up?

From what I understand about Linger in Shadows, it's just a real-time tech demo that a bunch of guys in Europe were working on. That said, it still intrigues me and if I've supported weird "games as art that are actually as dumbounding to understand as actual art" projects like Worldimagespundplay in the past, why stop now? I'll grab it for sure.
Saw a trailer for the rocket cars game and that really does look like a blast.

I bought it and played it. It's crazy freaky and I can tell these guys have some ideas for the future. Is it worth the $2? I suppose if you're a trophy whore like me.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars is damn fun. The Mrs. and I played the demo for a few hours. Fun, but not $15 fun IMHO. That price point is reserved for special events like Braid and Castle Crashers.
The big update was nice, but the PSN store clearly wasn't meant to handle this much in a single update. A lot of those items should be grouped together.

I just wish there was a text view. I hate having to hover over every single icon in an unsorted list to see what it is.

That would be nice! Or maybe some way to sort them.
Personally, the system should be smart enough to NOT show me add-ons for games I don't have. Maybe it can check to see that I have never, ever ever played any kind of sports game on my PS3, and never show me the FIFA add-ons? Hey, power of the cell and all...

Never any doubt of it. Had "Kamalot" in my sig for a few days. Also helps that JayVe, my Gamertag, was in my signature back at the old place for a few years.

the square button helps by changing the display mode, each item takes up one line, has text descriptions.

I'll be damned, thanks!
And fwiw, I picked up Linger in Shadows on a whim. It's interesting, though some of the motion controls feel tacked on and are more frustrating than, say, just letting me use the thumbstick to control the camera. Unfortunately there's probably only about 15 minutes worth of entertainment in there, and I'm somewhat insulted that it includes a big manifesto about how awesome and noncommercial the demoscene is in something that I had to just pay for. (Don't get me wrong, the artists clearly deserve money, I just don't like getting an anti-corporate creed from a commercial item.)

Its a 5 min movie... that you can sorta interact with... there's hidden signs through the 5 minutes and you use the SixAxiS and joystick buttons to unlock certain scenes. Its kinda cool to try to figure them out.

Imagine being able to turn the camera in a Metal gear Solid 4 cut scene using the SixAxiS and then finding something off screen where if you press O it will take you to another scene.

Linger In Shadows is neither a game nor a movie; it's a demo by the group Plastic from Poland. Yes, you can interact with it if you choose to, and you'll get trophies, but it's not a game per se.

Isn't Warhawk more than a year old now? Could you imagine just now getting a demo for Blue Dragon, a game that was released alongside Warhawk last August 2007? Other games that were released include Metroid Prime 3 and Bioshock... both of which I can't imagine getting promo material for more than a year after their release and both of which I enjoyed a LOT more than Warhawk.
Better late than never

I'm amazed how you always find things to be negative. Is it a bad thing that people that haven't bought Warhawk, now can try it out?
Spigot
10-10-2008, 08:10 AM
Warhawk at least has a) the recent price drop and b) the fact that it's still being played by lots of people going for it. It's like how they release those demo discs of MMO's a while after they come out so that they can stir up interest in people who weren't early adopters.
That said, I wish devs would release a demo BEFORE the game hits retail instead of afterwards.

Oh right. Like this (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=915)?
Seriously though. Imagine Bioshock on the 360 just now getting a demo. Yeah, Bioshock is a great game... but more than a year after release you'd think there'd be newer things to get demos for.
At least we get a demo. Like I said, better late than never. The other heavy hitter from Warhawk's release time frame was Metroid Prime 3 for Wii, which STILL hasn't seen a demo. :D

If Bioshock was a multi-player only game available on XBLM, with big game-play altering updates still coming out, I think a lot of people would appreciate it.

Oh dear! I posted word for word another article where PS3 sales are suffering in Japan. In fact, they are. They are at their lowest point yet. But you already made it clear you prefer your head in the sand instead of being aware what is going on in other countries.
Pardon me for not reading the posts in order... or for having hour long phone conferences. I'm obviously not as good at this game as you are.

This is 100% correct. There's a big difference between posing positive insightful and interesting things for something and then the exact opposite. I always used this logic to determine who really is a fanboy and who really is a fan of something.

To post something related to the topic, (although it might be fun to jump into the fight, as well) I think it's interesting that the PSN has the Dead Space suits already, yet XBL doesn't, when the Xbox generally gets things a few days early. Also, these premium themes seem pretty shitty. I've gotten much better themes for free, which update almost every single one of the icons, as opposed to these ones for sale that seem to update only the top level icons, if that.

I got Warhawk in gamefly the same day the demo came out! So I'm just going to download the demo and play that and if I like it re-gamefly the full version but after downloading the Hot Shots Golf 5 demo, I want to send Warhawk back as soon as I can to get the full version of HSG.

At the time, my PS3 wasn't online. I've got an original 20 gigger with no WiFi. That said, I hated the controls and interface. If something as fundamental as the controls aren't enjoyable to me... why bother taking it online to have my ass kicked? That'll make me enjoy it more?
That's like telling someone who does not like Chinese food that they really need to try the all-you-can-eat Chinese food buffet.

I always feel like I should finish what I started. Much like watching a movie. Then, and only then, should anyone have an opinion on something. In games like STALKER, if you were to quit in the first 5 minutes, you would never get to see how well the game actually plays out.
