I decided to make a new thread rather than posting these in the cat thread because well... they aren't cats. :)

But really, there's just so many weird animals in nature, and I love learning about them.

Here are a couple of my favorites. What's yours?

Pygmy Jerboa

Malay Eagle Owl (you can pet it!)

Lyre Bird (who can imitate a chainsaw and ambulance!)

Nothing beats the mantis shrimp, easily among the most evolutionarily advanced animals on the planet.

Bah, you stole my submission. That was the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title. Some of those guys can hit with the same PSI as some high caliber firearms.

Don't forget that they also have vision that extends into the ultraviolet and they can see polarized light; and that the smashers' (the ones that attack with their elbows) spring-loaded arms generate flashes of light from the impact along with cavitation bubbles that stun enemies and do almost as much damage as the initial hit!

P.S. I do my best to take opportunities to show off the mantis shrimp ;)

P.P.S. That pygmy jerboa is too cute to live. I can't believe it fell off the scale and that it does that hopping-in-a-circle bit.

Damn... that shrimp is a real asshole in this video:

I mean... it ripped off a crab's claw and proceeded to eat it right in front of the crab for fuck's sake!
