Since this ins't EA, lets get rid of EA restrictions ...

1. Allow it so people can post three letter response like; "yes"

2. Allow animated avatars.

3. Allow images in sig.

just suggestions, i'm sure there's a technical reason why they aren't implicated. but it'd be nice to see. :)

2. They will not allow this to happen.

1. If all you have to say is "Yes," or "QFT," or pretty much anything less then 10 characters, you do not have anything worth saying. In the small off chance that you do, it is easy to get around.

2. Animated avatars are the only thing worse then regular avatars.

3. I take that back. Stupid, giant images in the sig are worse then animated avatars.

I realize what that may have looked like, some n00b coming in starting complaining about things before he even has his foot in the door... I just figured since a lot of us know each other... But I apologize for being intrusive.

You're not. And I know you're not a n00b. It's just that when you give a person too much freedom, you have those few who take it too far. I think we should feel our way through the growth of this site and if it naturally evolves into that then cool. I don't think we should force too much change so early on though. That's just me. Your opinion is just as valid.

I think you're right about the animated avatars. But I'd love to have images in my sig.

If your only answer is either 'yes' or 'no' then you really not adding anything to the discussion.

Hell no on animated avatars and sig-images. This place doesn't need to look like GayGamer or any of the dozens of other eye-searing game forums on the net.

The character limit is silly. Most people will just type yes and then aDJKLASDFJKLASDFKLJASDF. Same quality.

2. Allow animated avatars. Most of us are adults here, there is no need for this.

3. Allow images in sig. Absolutely not, some people have to pay ber bit or have capped data plans. I also do not want each page that is already photo heavy taking 5 minutes to load.

Agreed. I only have 13 gig max bandwidth, so I'd rather we not have sig images as well.

I do think it'd be nice if people could have their gamercard in their sig.

Those people should probably turn off avatars and sigs.

Sigs have valuable links though. Look at mine for example.

But how about Gamer Cards in the profile page somewhere?

I believe we're going to be firm on the animated avatar/sig image issues. We initially weren't going to allow avatars, but relaxed that policy. Maybe we'll revisit this in the future.

Gamercards in profile pages was something Bap cooked up for EvAv, but I don't see why we couldn't do it here as well.

I like the idea of Gamertags being in our sig, if we choose, as long as they don't take up too much real estate. Otherwise you get a lot of crap when you allow image sigs.

I'm against animated Avatars. In fact, I'm for some policing on avatars just given their possible content. I know we're by and large adults here, but for sanity's sake I think some things just should not be allowed.

And to go completely backwards, I'm with the Doc on short replies. Hell, I know I'm guilty of adding nothing with full replies, so extra short ones would just get annoying.

No image sigs please! It's cool the way it is.

1. Word cap doesn't really seem like an issue worth worrying about -- someone who wants to write a message that's too short is just going to write 'too short' after it. That's a pretty easy workaround, and really easy to ignore.

2. I like avatars, but I really don't need the left side of my screen to be shimmy-shammying all over the place in my periphery while I'm trying to read a thread. I really don't see what animations would add to an avatar that would be worth the inevitable visual assault.

3. FUCK NO! If people want to wave their web-placards and express their uniqueness so badly, they should just use their blog. That's what it's there for.

Gamercards in profiles is a nice thing, but not in the sigs, please. I really don't care to see how many 'points' you have 50 times in a thread just because you wanted to type "LOL (too short)" after every funny comment. I also don't care how much you like Lamborghinis.

Just wondering what the posting threshold has been set to for new thread posts to be enabled, is it now 25 like it is for blogs? And I'm assuming this changed sometime today, since I have posted a new thread before.

We were having an influx of spammers recently, so we bumped up the restrictions. As it is now, you have to have 25 posts before you can create a thread. However, I can change this as a mod for you, specifically, but there's a problem with my admin powers. Anything I change doesn't stick. I don't have a save button, for some reason.

You don't need an image in your avatar *and* an image in your signature. What, are you afraid that between reading your username and finishing reading your post the reader will forget who you are? I've seen some atrocious, tasteless image-sigs with the most generic subject-matter you can think of: anime characters, robots and guns. No, image signatures are unnecessary and only increase the loading time of the pages. There's nothing more annoying in a forum than seeing a post taking less space than the combined avatar and signature of the member.

The three-letter character limit is totally uncalled for. Your language has over 600,000 words. It wouldn't hurt using more than one of them in a post.

I just came up with one. And it could serve to help most of DukeFrukem's ailments as well.

Would it be possible to get a WYSIWYG editor for the Blogs so that we could embed HTML coded widgets-gamercards, twitter, etc.

Not sure what the policy is regarding them for the future, but I'd like to suggest we avoid the Feeds from various news sites, 1up, Joystiq etc? They add nothing to the content and it's irritating seeing the same news posts swamping out the original content on EvAv at the moment.

Thats the best mod on here.

Another good one, is when someone posts a URL, it will auto rename the link it posts to whatever the title of the page is... so you never see; "http://www.whateverthefuckthesiteis.com" , but instead you see; "Duke Nukem Forever Final Trailer"
