What should I play? The party is evil, we have a Wizard, Barbarian, Shugenja, Hexblade, and Fighter. I'm starting at 5th level. I'm debating an evil cleric, but I'm not sure that I want to play another cleric, as that's what my last character was.

So I open it to CoG, what should I play?

3.5? There's a class in Complete Scoundrel called Master of Masks that lets you play essentially any role a party could require and allows you to do almost anything you want. It's always been my dream to play it...mmmm. I think it takes 4 or 5 levels of Bard or Rogue to level in...but putting on the Mask of the Gladiator and gaining proficiency with almost every weapon, or putting on the Mask of the Dragon and getting a breath weapon...awesome.

Check out the book of 9 swords... Those are some really fun classes. I really liked playing mine.

Thanks to your suggestion I just looked that one up myself... Amazon reviews suggest that, even though it's a very well-liked book, Nine Swords characters are overpowered and that you can't really drop them into an already existing game. Any thoughts on that?

BO9S is basically the prototype for all that superpowers stuff they went with for 4e. It's basically stuffed to the gills with loopy anime shit like fighters that can throw fireballs and the like.

I wouldn't allow it in my games, and I'd definitely want to check with your GM before considering it, as it really doesn't mesh well with the Western fantasy flavor of regular D&D strains.

Honestly, how Bo9S is set up, people don't understand it. You play one of 3 types of "fighters", and as J Arcane pointed out, it was kind of precurser to 4e. So, the Bo9S character hits hard and fast, but falls off over a long fight. The standard fighter just keeps bashing and can keep going. A wizard, can do great damage over a few fights. It is just where the power curve is.

The other thing, is you need a few stats that are a little high, to make a truly uber character. My character could do some pretty awesome stuff, but he had limitations... like, he could dish good damage, which would make him a prime target... but he couldn't TAKE a lot of damage, unlike a fighter, or Barbarian.

Personally, I really liked the book, and characters. They fit right in, but have a different flavor. I don't know why you can't drop them into most campaigns.
