I work from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Most nights I bike to and from work, and depending on traffic and which hills I want to bike on, I sometimes take a bike trail.
The trail takes me past the vet teaching hospital that is part of the university I work at. The VTH has cows, horses, sheep, a goat or two, and some llamas (and more inside, this is just the outside stuff).
The trail is not lit, and only my bike light illuminates anything, giving me a very "Blair Witch" perspective on the ride home, which puts me on edge most nights.
As I was passing VTH, a llama began to scream. Did you know they can scream? Yeah, I didn't either. And it's a piercing, otherworldly scream. It sounded like some kind of demonic crow on steroids that was also being wounded. I guess they do it when they fight over something. Seriously, it was terrifying to have that come out of the darkness a couple hundred feet away. It is so loud that when I passed a street a full half mile away I could still hear it screaming.
Holy shit, what did I ever do to that llama? It scared the hell out of me. :eek:
