I really don't have too much to say here other than, really? Purple Drank as a canned soda? Shouldn't it be in bottles that look like cough syrup?

The name Drank has roots in Houston's hip-hop scene; "purple drank" is a slang term for an illegal concoction that mixes codeine syrup with soft drinks or alcohol. Several Houston community leaders have protested the beverage's name, arguing that it glorifies the drug culture. Bianchi, however, insists that Drank, despite its purple can and name, is not referring to purple drank. Of course it isn't. "The word drank is celebratory slang," he says. "The name of my product is hip and fun to say: 'I'm going to get my drank on,' " Bianchi says, sounding quite un-hip. A clever marketer, Bianchi isn't exactly ducking the dustup. "We wanted something fun, something that was a healthy alternative to people for using drugs and alcohol," he says. "If there's controversy about it, it only brings attention to our product."

Obviously, it's not in reference to the drug.

People have been mixing uppers and downers for years. For example the speedball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedball_(drug)), or the more work friendly hippie speedball(pot and caffeine).

Turns out they are only bad for you if you start out with lethal substances to begin with. Makes sense...

I read The Things They Carried when I was fourteen, and the only specific passage that stuck with me was the anecdote about the soldiers who carried a pocket full of uppers and a pocket of downers. It was presented as the horrible thing it was, that people had to chemically manage their moods. Now, though, it's available in tasty purple!

It did have a slight calming effect. It didn't taste too bad either. Was different I guess.

Heh. The folks on the Giant Bombcast tried Drank at the start of one of their episodes as part of their "taste a new weird drink every episode" thing (which is always pretty hilarious). As I recall, it fucked them up pretty bad. ;)

I actually just recently finished up a case of Drank. Ordered it from their site, and it was pretty good. It tastes like Grape soda and I would say that the effect is very similar to a dose of Nyquil (drink it with a benedryl and you won't have any trouble sleeping at all).

The one big problem I had with it was the amount of sugar. One can contains 54g of sugar, so I wouldn't recommend making it a nightly thing, unless you like your teeth to hurt.

Of course, the real question is, what would happen if you combined Drank with Red Bull? .
I can't vouch for Red Bull, but it does a decent job of cutting the edge off of Redline.

I think it was, yeah. It went something along the lines of "My God, it's just salt, salt, and more salt, covered in salt. You think it can't get any worse, but then it does." And yes, I agree. Or at least a very good health insurance plan.

Smarties from the UK are awesome. Last time we went, we came back with so many packs of them. I think the customs people helped themselves to a few. That's fine, maybe candy puts them in a better mood.

This, Smarties to me are the candy coated chocolate, and those other ones are Rockets, which I love.

EDIT: Eww.

Some doctors are concerned that "smoking smarties" could have negative health effects that include infection and allowing maggots to grow in the nasal passages by eating the sugar
