Anyone here use some form of online service to track their game collection?

I use IGN, though I wouldn't mind something better.

That was pretty much my exact reason for starting this thread, haha.

I've heard http://www.delicious-monster.com/ and http://www.imediaman.com/ so far.

Vaguely reminds me of my major screw up.

I took all my games that were on CD/DVD, put them in this huge binder. Much easier than losing them. Took all the CD-keys, serial blah blah etc, wrote them down carefully. Actually started the install of each to ensure they were correct. All well and good, I hid it carefully, and created a text file in Windows to match, named it cdks.dll and put it deep in System32. Threw away all my game manuals with the keys on them. This worked very well.

Last year I was gifted with a monstrous video card, Vista, and a bunch of hardware. Happily I installed it, and while it was installing, and wiping out my XP partition, I realized that the handwritten paper with my keys had been thrown away during a cleaning blitz.

...

...

I have a lot of unplayable games at the present time. This is why I enjoy Steam.

I'd really like this as well - something akin to DVDspot - which, sadly, will cease to exist in about a week (and i have yet to find a replacement service to track my pretty extensive DVD collection either...)

THAT would have left me enraged...and very sad, too. I feel your pain. :(

I created a Zoho database to track my collection/radar/wish list.

I used to use Gamespot until the "incident". Then I used to use a spreadsheet on my home pc. Now I'm thinking it's time to create my own program to allow easier tracking for myself.

I finally settled on IGN just because it had one entry for each game, where as the one I had previously used had everything user created.

I use collectorz.com Although you do have to pay for it.

Hmmm...a good idea for a site might be one where you store your collection and somehow recommendations are made based on how you've rated games in the past. Similar to the ability for Netflix to recommend you movies as you rent and rate them.

Does Gamefly do that? I unsubscribed and honestly don't remember.

Eurogamer's system works pretty well. If you're looking for a really thorough list, it may not have all the older titles. It does let you specify what version you have (US NTSC, JAP NTSC, Europe PAL).

My Game Collection (http://gamers.eurogamer.net/user_profile.php?user_id=139878&tab=game-collection)
My Most Wanted (http://gamers.eurogamer.net/user_profile.php?user_id=139878&tab=most-wanted)

I've also used 1up's system before.

Personally, I use DVD Profiler (www.dvdprofiler.com) to keep track of my DVD collection. Love it. Would really like something like this for Games/CDs/Books/etc. I tried the Collectorz software, but don't really want to pay for each seperate program. That, and DVD Profiler's database is a bit better than the Collectorz one.

I hate being one of those "me too" posters...but me too. DVD Profiler is excellent. I do use Collectorz for my CD collection, but can't bring myself to also get a separate version to track games.

I'd love something nice and unified, that also allows publishing the databases online. Not so much for bragging (though that can help), but for insurance purposes in case of theft or fire.

I did this on 1Up for a bit. But just like tasking time played in an MMO, it just made me depressed. Seeing the THOUSANDS of dollars I spend on just game software in a year got disconcerting.

Kats and I use IGN as well, though I find it is sometimes missing just the right version of a game.

I'm the opposite. I love to see that 'games in collection' number climb. I think Kats and I will break 1k games by the end of next year and it will be a pretty nice milestone. =3

If you are going to allude to pimping the collection, then you have to go ahead and post it!

Games! (http://users.ign.com/collection/Katslover42)

Anyhow, I've never had a problem with IGN as far as games go. Well, except they had two entries for Tiny Toon Adventures: Cartoon Workshop, but no entry for Tiny Toon Adventures. I just checked, and they have corrected this, so I went ahead and fixed my entry for that, as well.

IGN blows for movies, though. I tried adding our movie collection, and was doing so alphabetically. First thing I went to add was the limited edition Akira tin. Not on there, so I said screw it.

I use DVD Aficionado (http://www.dvdaf.com/) for our movies, but I haven't updated it in years.

I've tried other things, and I've found that programs don't really do it for me, as I don't care about it unless the collection is readily available on the web. Delicious Library would be amazing, but I don't run a Mac. I've always wondered if I could emulate the Mac OS and run DL on it.

I've also thought about using Amazon's collection database (I forget what it is called, and it's almost impossible to find on their site), but just haven't taken the time to do so.

I know what you mean. Then again, for me, just looking at the stacks of games I haven't played yet and movies I havent watched yet does that. :)

One thing to keep in mind, check to see how your chosen database handles data export. It's no fun re-entering all that data if the service you're using closes or just starts to suck.

I'm bumping this thread again. The recent crazy amount of titles made me realize I really would like a good place to not only track my collection, but the titles I want to play in the future as well. I know sites like IGN already exist, but the interface has always just seemed too bulky and viewing the list is just not interesting.

I just wish something like http://www.myanimelist.net existed for games.

Sorry, no new suggestions. I just wanted to say that Delicious Library looks pretty sweet. I've also been looking for something with which I could catalog all my games, books, movies, and music that's more exciting than Excel. I'm actually thinking about buying it right now!

Also, it looks like the creators are fans of Penny Arcade. :D

I like AVCataloger (http://www.avcataloger.com/). You can build customizable databases for books, movies, games, and music. I've only got my CDs and games (other than PC, those have never been as organized as everything else) in it for now, and my wife is slowly working through our books, but it's fairly nice.

Personally I don't see the point in online tracking's of your collection if you have everything organized in your own home.

I don't have a collection of dvds or games to warrent the internet for this, but to each their own I suppose.

Personally I don't see the point in online tracking's of your collection if you have everything organized in your own home.I have this chronic problem of not finishing games. Having some place where I could track my games and my progress playing them would be awesome, especially games I've rented where I don't have them lying around as a reminder. Plus, having a way to track the games I want to play at some point would be nice as well.

Personally I don't see the point in online tracking's of your collection if you have everything organized in your own home.

I don't have a collection of dvds or games to warrent the internet for this, but to each their own I suppose. My database (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/All_Games/) isn't so much for tracking my collection (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Collection/) as it is for monitoring my wish list (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Wish_List/) and my radar (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Radar/).

Anytime I catch word about a game that sounds interesting, I throw it on the radar. If it looks good enough for a potential purchase/rental, it gets pushed to the wish list. Games that are bought obviously go to the collection list.

The database also gives me the ability to slice and dice by:

Genre (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Genre/)
Publisher (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Publisher/)
Developer (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Developer/)
And by system:

Wii (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Wii/)
WiiWare (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/WiiWare/)
Virtual Console (http://creator.zoho.com/doctorsetebos/games/view-perma/Virtual_Console/)
I've found it to be pretty handy.

mister slim

And if you have housing/rental insurance, which you should, an external database will help with any potential claims.

As a future preventative note, Steam now allows you to store CD keys from non-Steam games if you add them to your games list.

That thing is fantastic. It's just what I wanted for my game collection. However, it seems to be weird on DVD sections. Do you use movies, tv shows? Is there an additional download for DVDs?

I heard that someone was going to be taking over DVDspots database. But i have no idea who that was or when it will happen.

The guys at DVDVerdict (my other home on the web) were playing around with the idea, but i don't know if anything will come of it.

EDIT: I recently received an invite to www.glyde.com and i may get into that for the games, but as of yet they don't support bluray/hd-dvd. If i can share invites i'll gladly do so. The interface looks slick as hell.
