I was a moderate fan of the Call of Cthulhu collectible card game from 2005 (I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft stuff in general), and was bummed when it was basically canned.

The game has been resurrected though, in the form of a "living card game." Basically, that means a CCG except all boosters have predefined contents. A core set is $39.95 and has 166 cards and six little plastic Cthulhus (!), and Asylum Packs are released once a month for $9.95, and contain 40 cards. 3 copies of ten commons, and ten uncommons.

I picked the base set up, and it looks ... the same. I hope to get some games in and see if it's still as fun to play. I'm hoping to draw enough interest to start a league at the local comic/gaming shop. League play would actually be pretty inexpensive compared to M:TG or other CCGs. You start with a core set, two asylum packs (one prechosen, one of your choice) and then add another AP every two weeks.

One nice thing about the game is that you can play any card from your hand as a resource card, which means mana screw is basically non-existant. This makes the game a lot more casual-friendly.

Anybody else looked into this game?
