View Full Version : Oh, German Government!

'Cause we all know playing paintball lead to Hitler's love of violence, the holocaust and, of course, The Osmonds.
Here they go again: (http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/05/11/wake-school-rampage-germany-bans-paintball-laser-tag)
While there were renewed calls for a complete ban on violent games, it was, surprisingly, paintball and laser tag which, ultimately, will find themselves outlawed.
If anyone in the US wants to know what letting overly paranoid, religious nuts run your government will do to your rights just show them Germany.
While I can certainly applaud Germany's banning of Scientology, a smart move when you are considering the health and welfare of your countrymen, but paintball and laser tag? What's next? Using your hand to simulate a gun lands you in prison?

Germany's problems aren't just from the "religious nuts".
This is what happens when you rely on the government to protect you from the world. If you are of the opinion that the government can and should protect you from the evils of this world, gaze on what ends up happening. You give the government power to ban books, TV shows, movies, etc, and it doesn't end up well.

Fortunately we know the Germans would never make that mistake.
If the Germans ban violent games, it'll be incredibly amusing since the vast majority of European videogame discs are pressed in Germany. It's like the booze company (the name escapes me) who can't sell their product in the area they make it.

Lazer tag? Seriously?
Paintball hurts you, but even that is pushing it.
I'm starting to wonder if the German Government worrys lazertag players finish off tagging an opposing team member with a curbstomp.

I think they're more worried about the Teabagging and its harmful effect on The Children.

Paintball should be ok then, you get the facemasks in Germany, right?
I almost want to go play one of them now and use a downed opponent as a meat shield...

Just stop pushing your tongue through the little air holes in the mask while you're being 'bagged and you will be fine. :D

Funny. This is from a country that has one of the most well-trained and equiped militaries in the world. I play paintball (or at least, I used to, until the person I bought my CO2 from stopped selling it), and the only danger it poses to the players is if they decided to do something utterly stupid. Which, I have seen happen before....meh. It's not the same as actually being shot at, but I know several of my paintball friends who were inspired to join the military because of playing paintball. It's not the same, not by any means, but still. Coming from Germany, a country with a proud (most of the time, not counting WWII) military tradition, this is just completely stupid.

I'm serious, this is what happens. It's V for Vendetta on a large but much slower scale in some European countries. People are afraid of things, and let the government have too much power. How many videos of the UK have we all seen where the "man on the street" commentary about something ends up with, "Well, the government told us X so it will be okay."?
You can't trust the government to protect you from being offended, from bad people, from scary things, etc. You have to take a stake in your own future! If you trust these people to make decisions for you like, "Paintball might make my neighbor into a school shooter so I shouldn't be allowed to play it", then I don't know what to say.
I'm glad I live in the US. We have a LONG way to go in some areas, but at least I can still buy a gun, play any video game I want, and maybe run around in a field getting my fat ass some exercise playing paintball. Oh, and I can read or watch anything too.

Dont worry Fowler, I already have my mask, fertilizer and copy of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture for such an eventuality.

Excellent. I will bring the fuel oil and we....oh, wait, they're listening to us right now. Actually, they probably are. Dammit. ;)
