A few weeks ago Bungie's latest ARG led up to the release of a new trailer (http://www.co-optimus.com/article/573/Bungie_Keep_it_Clean_Trailer_-_Prepare_to_Drop_for_Halo_3.html). There wasn't much information about what we were seeing, only that it was Halo 3 related and it displayed the tag-line "Prepare to Drop."
Speculation began, and the most popular rumor was a Halo based squad add-on.

More official information has come out today, and it leads even more credence to the aforementioned rumor. The Bungie website has been updated to include "Halo Recon (http://www.bungie.net/Projects/whvidldshbyjsdo/default.aspx)" on their projects page. There's a link from there to the "official trailer" as well as some wallpaper.
Please remain calm.

Do we know if this is DLC or disc based? Will Halo 3 be required?

I'm sure this will be a awesome addition to the Halo universe.
I'm expecting this game to be a slower more tactical game than the previous Halo titles. After all you are only a ODST :D
Did you see the size of the silenced SMG the guy was carrying? Made me laugh because the Master Chief can dual wield them.

It is a full game. They even showed off box art when they showed off the new trailer.

Yeah, it's a standalone disc coming out next fall. There's supposed to be more of an emphasis on stealth, which makes me think it'll be a little bit more like Rainbow Six. But it comes with all the stuff you expect from a Halo game: 4 player co-op, the Forge, the movie function, etc.

For those who don't know Christian Allen who worked with Red Storm moved to Bungie shortly before Halo 3's release. While at redstorm he was creative director for Ghost Recon AW2. Its interesting to see the approach they are taking with Halo Recon. Will it be a grittier more realistic style of play with the command squad members
Heres his portfolio if your interested.

Anyways tickle me intrigued.

More of the Halo universe? Yes please. Will be interesting to see a game not focused on just MC kicking ass.

Should be fun.
Never really got tired of Halo.
My biggest concern is how the multiplayer will play out since its on its own this time around.

I personally cannot wait! I love the Halo universe, and am more than happy to try my hand at something a bit different this time around.

More tactical play as OSDTs is all i want.

Cool.
I was sort of hoping for another Halo 3 campaign, though.

Does this count as one of the three required Microsoft exclusive Bungie projects?

Of all the games in the Halo universe, this one actually interests me, but really.

For me the interest lies in the fact that you control an OSDT trooper and not a Spartan II unit. They are not cyborgs and therefore not super-human a-la Master Chief. No shields will also make it a very different game akin to Ghost Recon which makes sence seeing as Christian Allen is now working at Bungie.
I predict the game will be slower paced as the OSDT will have to use stealth and guile to overcome the Brutes who could quite easily squash them underfoot if they got within 10 feet of them.
So Ghost Recon meets Halo anyone? Could be fun. Lets hope it will be.
I'm totally digging this one. The feel of the trailer was definitely darker and more gritty than previous installments. Just the change it needs, I'm thinking. Can't wait to see what else comes of this.

Sounds pretty appealing to me. I love Ghost Recon and Halo, so a mish-mash of the two will (hopefully) be all kinds of awesome.

I cannot wait for an AI buddy to shoot an RPG into a chain link fence, killing the Master Chief.
