Worth a read. (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/06/martin.fathers/index.html)

This could get religious and/or political, so I put it here. Then again, it may not go anywhere at all!

I agree wholeheartedly.

I am going to say that the article should come with a caveat, in that it doesnt really relate to cases like divorce. Sometimes, its not fathers fault that he cant be there for his kid as much as he wants to. Theres little that he can do if a relationship between him and the mother of his children just doesnt work out.

But what this is referring to - absent fathers, uncaring fathers, abusive fathers - yeah I agree that a lot of us need to step our game up. I know I often wish my Dad was still around, I could have really used some fatherly help in high school (he died when I was 15). At the time I didnt even realize that I needed it, so naive was I.

Somehow I feel the men who need to heed this sort of plea aren't the type to read Roland Martin for advice.

I like him, despite disagreeing with him at times. He has a level head on his shoulders.

Also, I think Strawberry's autobiography could be an interesting summer read. I was a big Mets fan while living in NYC as a kid, and remember the years of Hernandez, Carter, Strawberry, Gooden, et al, with fondness.
