It's been a long time coming, but we're finally going to have that direct PlayStation Store access very soon. How soon? How about next week? Yep, according to IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/917/917949p1.html?RSSwhen2008-10-09_025200&RSSid=917949), the PlayStation Store for the PSP will go live on October 15th.
Now, that's pretty cool, but the next feature they announced has me quite a bit more excited. It's called Ad-hoc Party for PlayStation Portable (not the sexiest name, I know) and it allows you to play any Ad-Hoc multiplayer PSP game online with others using your PS3 to connect. So yes, that means you each have to have a PSP, PS3, and a copy of the game.
So, now I have no excuse not to get Monster Hunter Portable. Oh, and anyone up for a match in Disgaea?

Wow, that's awesome. Sony is pretty much using the tunneling idea to greatly expand their pretty poor online line-up for the PSP. We are definitely going to be playing some Power Stone around here when this gets up and running. Thanks for the great news, Gorvi.

According to Eurogamer, this is for Japan only the 15:th.

I was thinking the same thing... ...now go back and edit the post and format it as a news article. :D
This sounds pretty interesting. I might have to pick up Monster Hunter myself for the Ad-hoc Party play.

I'm chasing after my kids at the moment, so I don't really have the time. This is something the mods should be doing, though, this is a rather big story.

I wonder if the linking capability to do this is in anyway related to this:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs-08-psp-plus-adds-dualshock-3-controller-functionality/
It seems an upcoming game will allow you to hook up the PSP to the PS3, then use a dualshock 3 controller to control the PSP game (giving you a second analog stick).
The first thing that came to mind when hearing this was how this could be neat for Playstation games on the PSP.

Wait so Monster Hunter 2 can be played in parties now? It's 4 player co-op right?

Pretty much, yeah.
That's totally sweet. Looks like it's time to form a hunting party. :)
