That's a great deal if you don't already have those games.

Yeah, this is an awesome deal. Too bad I already own them all.....and paid a LOT more than that for them. :o

Yeah, buying them all individually was roughly... $50 + $30 + $30 + $30 = $140.

I've got the entire Civ series already, except for the new Colonization, which I tried and frankly thought was dull and weird.
Love Civ4 soooo much.

Yeah, luckily I bought CivIV Gold, so that saved me a little. Still bought BtS and Colonization seperate though.

Is this worth it if I only have Vanilla Civ IV so far? I absolutely love Civ IV but with all the user mods I never got around to any of the expansions.

I think Beyond the Sword adds quite a lot to the game, a lot more than Warlords. But then I don't play scenarios very much. (And I haven't really explored mods for the game.) And Colonization is its own game, even though it's based heavily on Civ IV.
You could get just Beyond the Sword for $20, and add quite a bit to the vanilla experience, or spend another $20 and get the whole set. (Why the heck does Amazon have Complete priced at $70 right now? The press release said $40. Oh, it says it's sold from some third-party retailer, that's why.)

With Warlords, I found myself sort of wondering why I spent the money when I first bought it, but the longer I played it, the more the gameplay tweaks grew on me, and now I wouldn't dream of playing without it. The scenarios sucked, but the main gameplay changes were quite nice.
With Beyond the Sword, I was stupid excited when I first got it, because they'd added so much to the game and everything, the scenarios even seemed neat at first, but over time I grew uncertain as to whether I liked the changes or not. They made cultural victory substantially harder, while simultaneously adding a new easy victory in the form of the Apostolic Temple. The corporation system mechanics are bizarre, and feel more like someone's little joke at their expense than a seriously considered gameplay mechanic. Some of the buildings have been altered for seemingly no good reason, the big thing being a total removal of culture bonuses from religious structures, part of what makes culture victory so much harder. On the other hand, I do like the NextWar scenario, as it does at least make some effort towards adding a futuristic phase to the end game.
The other scenarios are all sort of disappointing on the whole, neat ideas at first, but in practice poorly implemented. I was really excited for the space one, but it's sooo boring. The wierd afterworld X-Com-esque scenario was kind of neat, but really more of a proof of concept than a game. The fantasy scenarios is absolutely horrible (which is odd because the mod it's based on isn't half bad, why they didn't just include that I don't know). Rhye's and Fall is good, just insanely hard, and gets really boggy in the mid to late game.
Overall, it's still worth the money, and I still play with it rather than without, but I question the wisdom of some of the design decisions.

(This may have been fixed in a patch.)

I thought the addition of Corporations in BtS made an interesting addition to the modern eras. It made the control of certain resources highly profitable. I'm with Wraith in saying BtS seems to have given more to the game than Warlords did.

I'm really digging the "Fall from Heaven 2" mod.

I can't imagine playing Civ 4 without either expansion. I don't own Colonization yet.
BtS added in a few annoying AI quirks that I never noticed in vanilla or Warlords though, such as your AI ally asking you to join them in a war, then negotiating peace a turn later and leaving you to fight alone. Seriously, it happens 9 out of 10 times.
Also the AI seems extremely militaristic now. You pretty much have to be constantly pumping out units to keep up with them. I usually dedicate two cities to doing nothing but building troops.

If these were all on one DVD, I'd go for it even though I have all but Colonization already. I'm lazy, and it takes forever to install all of the expns.

That is a good deal. I got Civ 4 Gold for about $30 and Civ BtS for 4. I had to also buy Civ DS to get a buy 2 get 1 free deal though.

That's a damn good deal, too bad I have everything minus Colonies already.
Reading this thread reminds me of playing endless hours of Civ IV.
Which then reminds me...
Arghh....I hate the Aztecs!! :p

I've just gotten out of the worst game of Civ 4 I've ever had. My starting location was damn near impossible to work with.
I had a good amount of luxury resources and lucked out on some Iron, but apart from that, nothing went right. I saw my downfall coming from as early as the third turn, when I realized that the Khmer were going to be able to easily block me in. I ended up with room for just 5 cities and they were all sharing a lot of tiles.
I decided to use my lack of city maintainance costs to my advantage and ramped up the culture in an attempt to city flip my way out of it, but no dice.
I simply couldn't make troops fast enough and as soon as the Khmer realized I was so weak they just rolled in and wiped me out.
Good times.
Edit: And yes, I too hate the Aztecs, but only half as much as the Vikings.

Why are these scenarios unkown to me? I have all of the expansions. Am I simply missing them or are they from mods?

On the menu after you pick single player there's an option to play scenarios. As far as I know, all the ones mentioned in this thread are in there.

I bought CivIV gold (base+warlords) and CIV Beyond Sword for the same price. Great price though if you don't have them.
Think I'll wait until the last expansion goes cheap on steam.

It ups on steam now with %10 off which would be tempting if i had the money since it was my flatmate and not me who owned the games at the time i was enjoying it... think i'll wait and see if it goes on sale on steam at some point. If not i may just pick it up when i have some extra money about. Having the thing on steam would be awesome at for about £25 you can't really go to far wrong with it

I bought Civ4 gold off the amazon marketplace new for $10-13USD and the BTS expansion for $13CAD at my local futureshop (read: Bestbuy, for my American friends) during a customer appreciation sale (15% off).
Deals are to be had! Better than this if you're willing to put some time into it, but thank god more companies are coming out with packs. I almost bought Sword of the Stars individually and the two expansions for 50$, they just released all 3 together for 29$ on Impulse & Steam.
