Is there somewhere that keeps a record of game sales data? I was looking for some info for my next blog post and was hoping for some fairly hard numbers. Specifically No More Heroes, Resistance, and Halo 3.
The info I would like is cost to make and number of games sold. Also, does anyone know how much money per game sold goes to the developer (after the kickback to the console's company and cost of DVDs, and packaging)?

Definite data is never given, certainly not costs. For sales there are intwrnal reports or NPDan that's it.

You know, if you're trying to compare sales of games between consoles, using No More Heroes as an example against Resistance and Halo 3, really isn't fair.

I knew the cost data was a pipe dream, though I was hoping for sales info. Never really expected anything exact, I guess I will root around and see if NDP gives me enough info to do what I want. The one I have no clue where to get though it the cost of production. A lot of numbers get thrown around at random, but I never saw anything gathered for those.

The issue is that outside of press releases, you can only get limited local data. Valve never does this, Nintendo never does, and theyr are generally flawed.
Good luck. I might recommend e-mailing some folks, promise anonymity, see if that helps. I might try and help you with that. Sounds like a fun article to write.
Shoot me an e-mail.

I was going to go for a cost reward thing. I know No More Heroes was fairly cheap to make so even with the lower sales numbers, it was considered a success. As for the other two, they were big budget and I was curious if there was a similar ratio to the dollar in dollar out profits.
