View Full Version : I have come full circle with my Wii...

As I sit here and type this, my Wii sits on top of my entertainment center. It is unplugged, cold, dusty, unloved and unused. I have been getting increasing urges to trade it in or sell over the last few weeks.
My most recent urge was to sell it and use the credit toward a PS3. There are a few games I'd play on that, like Uncharted, or Pain, maybe even LBP(GASP!).

So what do you think. Would a PS3 be a wiser investment then a Wii?

I say roll your pennies and keep the Wii. Then, when you have the monies, get a PS3 and you will never have to worry about what console a game comes out on ever again.

... hmmm... actually, starting a change jar for a PS3 might be a good idea.

I would say give it up. Wii sucks balls. But I'm not giving mines up. Makes me a hypocrite. No More Heroes 2 and that Mad World game might give it life. Can't be Tiger Woods on it either. Maybe when that motion plus comes out it'll change things.

There's plenty of party gaming left in the Wii.

If you don't believe me, you haven't played Boom Blox.

Boom Blox had a better plot that most Spielberg movies.

The Wii will have a great year next year , mark my words. Still its well worth getting a PS3 for Uncharted/Rachet and Blu-ray alone. And there is a lot of other good stuff including of course MGS4.

The lover of kats speaks wisdom. Every bloodly time I've sold a console, I've ended up regretting it. My son and I dust of the Wii now and again for a little House o' the Dead, and both of my kids are huge Smash Bros fans, so it's worth it to keep the thing around...

Although Nintendo does its level best to try my patience by introducing new controllers every two months...the cheapest console sure doesn't stay cheap...

I'm in the same predicament; I haven't touched the Wii for months. I'm now pondering how much I could get on EBay.

Yep, I'm betting we'll see a new Zelda around this time next year, at the very least. If you've kept a Wii this long, it would be foolish to sell it now, with the prices on eBay pretty much stabilized. Though, if you did want to sell it, there is the option of waiting until right around Christmas, when the prices are sure to go up.

Coming this season are Animal Crossing, and Tales of Symphonia 2. Plus, a Wii lightsaber game (http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/starwarstheclonewars/news.html?sid=6196086&mode=previews) that might actually be good!

I'm in the opposite situation (have a PS3, don't have a Wii, though I'm fine with this setup).

If you could get close to full price for it (depending on how low supplies are, or how desperate the buyer is), selling it might not be a bad idea. You could always pick it up again in the future, after the price has dropped. Or wait for the Wii's successor, which I'd assume would be fully backwards compatible.

Otherwise, I'd probably hang onto it for the few Wii games I'm actually interested in (Tales of Symphonia, Fragile), and the occasional VC and WiiWare release.

I find the Wii a strange gaming phenomenon. 99.9% of the games that come out for it aren't worth playing but I use it for a couple things quite regularly. First of, Smash Bros. Brawl. Sometimes I play on my on vs. the computer, other times I'll have a bunch of friends over and we will beat the crap out of each other. It's great fun. Then, when we get tired of that we throw in Mario Kart Wii and then we race and curse the night away. I haven't tried Boom Blox yet but I hear great things and I am waiting for it to get really cheap.

One other thing I really love doing on it is catching up in old Nintendo franchises. Right now I am slowly making my way through Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I never owned an N64 so this is my first play through and I have to admit, this game probably deserves a graphical update. It's a lot of fun.

Speaking of which. I just saw this and it is amazing (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41056.html).

It's TGS footage of Muramasa. The video encoding is messed up but the game is beautiful. How can you go wrong with beautiful 2D sprites and fast paced ninja fighting action? Right now my only questions are, why are the levels so short? And why are they so disjointed? Is that because it's an expo demo or is that how the game is?

Anyway, if you want more, here is some footage from TGS '07 (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25660.html).

I, on the other hand, have not regretted the selling of my Wii. All it did was collect dust. At best, it was a good Wii Sports machine when people came over - but the majority of my gaming is online, and that's on 360 or PS3. I don't entertain enough to warrant keeping the Wii just for the very occasional gathering of friends, especially with the games that have come out as late, they just don't interest me. It's shifting toward having game content again, but once more, it's turning into a platform for Nintendo-only games, most of which I'm tired of buying over and over again.

Same answer I alway give; don't get rid of hardware, it always bites you in the ass down the line.

I hadn't touched my Wii in months until I bought Mega Man 9 last Thursday, I have hardly touched anything else since. I am not just playing Mega Man either.

That Muramasa footage is very beautiful and action packed, I just hope there is more variety than what it looks like. As is, it looks like Odin Sphere was less repetitive.

I totally agree but I am willing to give it a chance being that this is just a TGS demo. I'll be keeping an eye on it and hoping they can make it more than just bite sized ninja hack n' slash levels.
