Fuller's 1845 is good stuff, man it was stronger than I thought. Having two full one pint bottles after only having a small sandwich 7 hours ago is not the best idea.
OMG, HOuse is on, and then there was a commerical for IN 'n Out. I want a burger now. Flying Dutchman sounds good, two burgers and two slices of cheese on a bun, and that's ALL. I found what I'm getting for lunch tomorrow.

Being able to change thread titles is awesome, but the banging in my head is not making it too much fun. It's distracting trying to do Italian homework with this numbing pulse in my head.
Sorry about the grammar issues James! Don't infract me, I have sensitive skin.

Normally I'm not a lightweight, but I hadn't eaten anything in seven hours, and Fuller's 1845 is known for being heavy with 6.3% alcohol content.
and it's been 3 weeks since I actually had any kind of alcohol, so I'm catching up.

I enjoy Irish Carbombs. Tasty all the time.
The other night I was watching a football game with a friend of mine and an Irish guy, and my friend mentioned Irish Carbombs, and the Irish guy got quiet, and I told my friend he probably shouldnt call them that, and he didnt understand why.

6.3%? weak... get some Chimay for 9-12% depending on the color of the label.
My current favorites are:
Erdinger Dark Hefe-Weizen
Franziskaner Hefe-Weizen (both light and dark)
Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen (very nice amber)
Paulaner Salvator (double bok)
Any Chimay... went to a poker party that had Chimay on tap. We warned the others who had never had it to take it easy. They didn't listen.
And pretty much anything at BJ's that they brew on site.

I made the mistake of asking for it by that name in an Irish Pub and was quickly corrected when the cashier turned to the barkeep and said, "two irish boilermakers."
To celebrate the launch of CoG I had some Appleton Estate V/X on the rocks.

Oh, the tarp! That thing was one of the best ideas we'd ever come up with. Quickest cleanup ever.
Also, it totally saved our carpet. Someone threw up, and the first thing anyone could get him to vomit in was a party cup. Anyway, a certain clumsy friend accidentally knocked what was to be known as "the puke cup" over (the only cup he hit out of all ten on the coffee table), and, luckily, it landed on the tarp and not our floor.
Wow, that was an epic party. :p

I'm currently drinking a pleasant combination of Firestone Honey Blonde, Sam Adams Winter Lager and Smithwicks. Having a kegerator is a beautiful thing sometimes. I'm a bit tempted to put together a white russian as well, but I'll probably just stick with beer tonight.
As a side note, being a light weight is nothing to be embarrassed about. What to know the advantage? You get drunk for CHEAP! I spent 30 bucks on my own alcohol the last time i went to a bar. I long for the days when 10 would have done it.

Sadly that gin makes a terrible dry martini...Waitan or was it a terrible Gin and Tonic? Anyhoo as a martini fan,
2 parts Beefeater gin, more aromatics than other gins
Shaken in ice
Spray on about 3-4 pumps from a proper bar-room atomizer
Garnish with a blue cheese stuffed olive.
Romulan Ale aka Windex
2 parts Sapphire Gin
1 part Blue Curacao
Some like to add a dash of dry vermouth
Shake well in ice, no garnish needed.

Best I've been able to figure from reading various articles, there's a goodly number of asians blessed with a quirky metabolic process with regards to alcohol. It takes a couple of steps (with two different enzymes) to break down alcohol - and apparently it's common mutation in certain asians to have the first step accelerated (wild enzyme) - result is you have to drink harder/faster to feel the effects.
... unless you're like me, and also have what appears to be a crippled second step. This results in what's referred to as Asian Flush, where buildup of acetaldehyde causes your body to freak out as you're basically poisoning yourself. Red face, nausea, headaches, etc etc etc.
Which is a little ironic, because in my heavier-drinking-days, the result was I felt like shit (compared to the other partygoers) while "drunk"... but I also never got hangovers. Go fig.

I envy those of you who can drink hard liquor. When I was in college, I got unbelievably ill on grain alcohol. I drank sooo much. I vomited for a day, to the point where bile was all I had left, and that came out too. I truly think I was sick enough to be admitted to a hospital, but I stayed in my dorm room and rode it out in absolute misery.
Now, twenty years later, the mere smell of anything stronger than beer or wine makes me ill. It's so, so disappointing. :(

Now that's a real man's beer. A challenge in every bottle. If you enjoy IPA's, get ready to have them perminently ruined for you. It's all in the name, so be warned.
Actually, Ruination's become a personal favorite of mine. It doesn't taste good, it isn't smooth going down and woe to you if you let it hits room temperature. Still, if you can finish a whole bottle, it feels like an accomplishment. Rarely a feeling associated with binge drinking.

Arrogant Bastard tastes like Coors in comparison. It sounds like an over exageration, but I encourage you to try it and see if I'm full of shit or not. It took me 3 tries to finish a full bottle. I'm at the point now that I can drink a bottle with relative ease, but I use the word "ease" lightly here. It's honestly impossible to express just how harsh this beer is in words. Just drop by a local BevMo and try it.

Oh, and to answer the question before, when I drink (which isn't as much as my younger pool-table-dancing days :o) it's usually bourbon. Sometimes ale or porter. Guinness, tho usually that's because of a round (or two :D) of Carbombs at the Twilight. I used to homebrew, but haven't done it in years. First off, apple martini? What are you, one of the Sex and the City girls? Man up and drink a regular martini.
If you have a BevMo in your area, they sell small 6 ounce bottles. However, you need to add sugar and water yourself, just like the real absinthe bars do. There's even absinthe spoons you can buy, but a regular slotted spoon seems to work just fine.

There's actually two varieties of Absinthe, both of which I've had the chance to try. The variety that people talk so much about, namely the kind that contains worm wood, it's...well, it's horrible. I'm trying to think of something to compare the taste to, but nothing's coming to me. It doesn't posses the distinct taste of alchohol as most spirits do. It was very earthy, tasting like some sort of bitter wood, if you can imagine that. There's a specific process to pouring it that supposidly takes the edge off, so that might have been our problem. Apparently it's supposed to be poured over a suger cube and mixed with water, i believe. We drank it straight and it was god awful. Still, I had a single shot and was considerably buzzed. Two probably would have pushed me into full on drunk. That shit is strong.
The other kind, which you can find more readily, is much easier to discribe. It's basically fennel liquor. If you've had Jager, tasted black lickerish or smelled fennel, you've got the basic idea. I find it easiest to picture it like Gin. Gin is vodka steaped in several ingredience that give it that distinctive taste. If you soaked vodka in fennel, you'd get absinthe. There are several other spices and ingredience, but fennel's the only one you'll notice.

We ordered the "real" stuff from the Czech Republic, if i remember correctly. Apparently, it isn't illegal to sell in the US, it's only illegal to produce it. You can find absinthe websites that will let you order to the states.
If you can find Absinthe at BevMo, i'd guess it's the second kind. I had it in Paris a few years ago, so I'm unsure of it's availablity here.
As a side note, I found an entire section devoted to absinthe at a liquor store in Amsterdame. It had a large selection of either style of absinthe with a few strange...additions. My favorite being a big chunk of Cannibus soaking in the bottom of the bottle. Eat the worm? Yes, please.

iirc (and I may not, so take it for what you will) -
Recent research indicates that absinthe doesn't contain as much thujone as previously thought. (I seem to recall someone even testing a vintage bottle found at some estate sale or summat) US regs were revised last year I think to allow importation (and production, I assume) so long as it passes w/o thujone in it (or very low levels, can't remember)
Since then, I think there are at least two distilleries here in town that started making it this year. :D

Last night I went to the local bar and drank about two gallons of Odell Cutthroat Porter (http://www.odellbrewing.com/beers/classics/cutthroat_porter.aspx). Pretty damn excellent if I do say so myself, and I do.
Unfortuntely I was still feeling it this morning at 4:30 when I woke up for work, and the feeling wasn't quite as nice as I remember it being last night.

Hopefully you come home to newly purchased bottles of booze. There are unwritten roommate rules. Near the top of the list (just under "don't sleep with my girlfriend") is "don't touch my fucking booze".

I once got blackout and woke up missing 3/4 of a bottle of Precis. I was the only one home that night.

Yesterday would have been my father's birthday. Toasted his memory with a wee dram o' Single-Malt Aberlour (http://www.aberlour.com/12yearolddoublecaskmatured/). Then continued to drink it since it tasted soooooo good![/QUOTE]
Jeez Man! I was just about to cut to the chase and mention the wonderful elixir that is Aberlour when I saw your post. Speaking of toasting memories, my departed Father-in-Law got me a bottle of Laphroaig for Christmas once. It was one of the more thoughtful gifts I have ever gotten and that stuff will put hair on your chest.

On #2 of a 6-pack of Ruination right now. After one, I actually feel buzzed. It'll be an interesting night.

Oh, I'm a nobody! :(
I honestly can't stand the taste of alcohol, it practically burns in my mouth, which is one of the many reasons why I don't drink.

It burns in everyones' mouths. ;) You just have to adjust your palate to it. :D
Trust me, when I say a nice scotch on the rocks is smooth, it still has burn; that's part of its character.

That a boy! Drink up, be merry! When you finally climb that mountain of Ruination, its great that you get to roll back down drunk.

Well, that pretty much kills the minimal interest I still had in trying, to be honest. I certainly wouldn't be drinking for the effect it might have on me, and there are lots of drinks that already taste far better to me; I can definitely do without the burning bitterness.

Speaking of fine alcoholic bevvies, I've been really enjoying ice-cold sake lately. You have to get some good stuff, but even then it's not too pricey, and it's so smooth and refreshing. Highly recommended!
These are both delicious and fairly easy to find:

You just need to find a drink you like, not all alcoholic beverages burn. May I suggest a White Russian.
Speaking of White Russians, I spent almost the entire weekend stumble drunk on them.

This is very true. Greyhounds are good too (if you like grapefruit juice). You can also go with a classic that almost everyone loves, the margarita.
