Valve is making an offer you may not be able to refuse. They're offering a 24 hour free trial of Left 4 Dead on the PC. From 12:01 AM GMT on Friday (so 7 PM EST/4PM PST tonight) through 12:01 AM GMT on Saturday (7 PM EST/4PM PST Saturday) you'll be able to play the game, with the new survival pack. But, afterwards you'll have to pony up the $40 to keep playing. Valve has done this a couple times before for Team Fortress 2, and every time they report a big spike in sales in the aftermath.

Pre-loading now! I obviously already have L4D for the 360, but I'm curious about how this will run on my new PC. And all the PC folk are adamant that the PC version is superior. We shall see, we shall see...

I have it on the 360 as well. Definitely going to check it out on the PC now that I have a more than capable rig.

Umm, because it is? The PC version is patched and updated more often than the 360 version.

That just means it had more bugs and problems then the 360. :p

My prediction: better graphics. And a nearly identical game with Mouse/keyboard controls.

We play often so make sure you add a few people to your Steam friends list.

The two versions are about as identical as they've ever been, the latest 360 patch got that version pretty much up date with the PC balance patches.

Will do!

Yeah, that's a good thing though. It'll be nice to have another version of this game on my PC so I can play it while the wife is hogging the TV.

Will definitely try this out. I bought 360 as all my friends went that route. I am dying to try it on the i7 920 and the 1GB 4850, should be gorgeous.

I almost added '...4 Sure' to the title, but it would have been over kill.

I have a feeling that all the new guys are gonna hate this game.

You're right. Oddly, the other gametypes didn't even pop into my head.

Not for me! I break boundaries, nothing is impossible. Reach for the stars etcetera...

Personally, I'd think they would have better success doing the half off weekend price like they did last time than just offering a free weekend. Or maybe even do both, give the free to play weekend and offer a slightly discounted price.

Eitherway, Valve fucking rocks.

They are also discounting it. Check Steam, it's 40% off.

God I hate the versus mode in L4D. It just feels so unbalanced and broken. Co-op is a work of art though.

Edit: Well, I just tried the trial version of L4D on the PC. Pretty much what I expected. It's the same game running in higher definition and with different controls. That said, I loved it. Then I saw the ad... I can buy this for $24??? Holy shit! I might just do it. I keep telling myself I don't need a second copy of the same game. But damnit that's a good deal!
