It won't play my Blu-Ray Punisher: War Zone or my new copy of Quantum of Solace, but on the games it will play (Bioshock, Mercs 2), cut scenes have weird breakage in the middle of the screen. I read that this is most likely a problem with my laser reading discs. Now instead of paying Sony to fix it, I'd like to just upgrade and get an 80 GB (mine is a 40GB). Should I trade it in to Gamestop, along with my PS2 since they have that awesome deal to save $100 on a PS3, and get a new one?
Will Gamestop TAKE -sort of- broken systems and give you at least some credit?

I'd say at least get the quote for repairs on Sony because you can always upgrade the HDD yourself, to 300 GB or whatever. Then just do a comparison against the amount you can get for a Gamestop trade in and go with whatever is cheaper.

Gamestop checks the systems before they accept them. So if I can boot up a game without any of these symptoms showing up, I think you should be good.

Yeah, I thought of that, and I considered bringing a game I know will work and get them to try it alone. All of my downloaded games still work too so that's good. I contacted Sony about it and they tell me I need to send it in for repair, but I lost my receipt (which is my only proof of purchase) so it won't be under warranty. I'll have to wait another day to get a friggin estimate on the repair. I'm just going to stop by Gamestop and see what I can do.
Thanks for your help, guys!

Of course they'll then sell that system to someone else.

That's exactly what I thought. It would be a dick move, but that person could just return it to Gamestop and then they have to deal with it.

This is why I didn't worry about any ethical repercussions.
