Sony Computer Entertainment America released a new trailer for the upcoming game inFAMOUS, due out on May 26th exclusively on the PS3. The trailer is entitled "Empire City" and shows off some of the open world you will be unleashing your superpowers upon as well as a lot of gameplay using said superpowers.

That reminds me a lot of Crackdown, at least the way he's getting around. Well, plus some floating/flying stuff, which is a nice plus.

I like the guy moving around in an agile way, the exploring looks cool at least. Still don't like the blue zap balls weapon. he needs to go freaking misfits and blast them with real lightning strikes.

Really well put together trailer. Certainly has moved the game up on my radar from where it was (and not just because of the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta).

All the official trailers for this game look amazing but a few of the captured game play videos bored me so I'm not sure what to think yet. I want it to be great so I think I'm going to lean that direction until told otherwise. I just hope the PS3 drops in price before or around the time this is released so I can buy the damn thing. I know it's very, very unlikely but one can hope.

I read in GameInformer that his powers will range from the "blue zap balls" to "Emperor Palpatine-style shocks." Even so, the game looks awesome. Makes me wish I had a console, instead of my PC.

I normally don't like doing this but in this case it needed to be done, sorry.
Fixed it for you.

You're right. The only circumstance under which I would get rid of my computer is if I was replacing it with another, newer, shinier computer. Thanks for pointing that out.

Still the only PS3 game I give the slightest damn about..
Platforming looks fiddly, but then I remember it's Sucker Punch and they know what they're doing.

Not to mention the ever tiresome murder orphans/rescue puppies "moral" choices.

I don't mind morality in my action games as long as it happens seamlessly. If I'm constantly making world altering moral decisions without realizing it (killing randomly, destroying things that don't need to be or shouldn't be destroyed ETC...) I'm cool with it but if I'm constantly being forced to choose between obvious puppies and rainbows or snakes and spiders I get annoyed. I also think all "morality engines" should primarily consist of escalating levels of of gray with only the rare truly black or white decision.

If I had a PS3, I'd definitely give it a rent. I like the idea of the game (from what I know so far) and the gameplay could be fun. But the animations all lack the right feeling of weight and strength, and really... No shadows?
(I mean, that first person seen walking across, I don't care if it's meant to be sped up or not, it still looks like someone who's coming down from a serious bout of constipation and looking for some privacy!)

Trailer looks great, but it still hardly showed up any sort of actual combat besides those same lighting blasts we've seen since the first footage of this game has leaked.
I remain skeptical about this one and I think that Prototype will end up the much better game.

Let's wait and see how it turns out. A couple of things i'd like to point out: wouldn't constant sound of lightning cracking be annoying? By looking at the trailer i'm itching to have an option to use guns and drive cars it would be very disappointing not to be able to and have all that be props.

I don't think you're alone, they are pretty much the same game. Prototype looks to have more things to mess around with though.

If anyone else was making this, I'd be skeptical. Sucker Punch deserves some respect, though.
I second the dislike of simple, polar morality systems, though. It's a nonsense choice, since nobody actually self-identifies as evil (outside of particularly enlightened psychopaths), and good is always a matter of perspective. Games are completely capable of letting you choose between different systems of morality and meaning:
Fable 2's ending lets you choose between resurrecting your family, your dog, or a large number of civilians. That isn't good, evil, or gray; you simply have to define your values and live with the consequences.
Put simply, I prefer it when games let you pick between a variety of virtues (individualism, social harmony, justice, &c.) than an imaginary, abstract good and pointless, juvenile nihilism.

This may get me to buy a PS3. And what will do it is jumping off of buildings from high up. For some reason, this works for me so well that I must have it.
I still remember as one of my fondest gaming memories getting the achievement in Crackdown for jumping off the headquarters and landing in that pond. So awesome with the wind whipping past you on the 10 seconds down...

Just based on what we've seen, it looks to me like Infamous has more focus on exploration and platforming, and Prototype has more focus on melee combat. Frankly, I think they both look good, though from the latest trailer I like Infamous' art style a bit more. (I like blue more than red.)

You can't drive a car or use guns because apparently your electricity causes issues with both. I think there's even a cutscene in the beginning of the game where you pick up a gun and blows up.

Did anyone even drive cars in Crackdown? I attempted to for a bit but then gave up, it was just more fun (and more productive) to go on foot and via the rooftops.

I did, it was fun as hell to drive around on the sides of the buildings and seeing how high you could get before you lost it and fell off. (This is with the agency suv of course, the others weren't as fun.)

I might get Prototype too, but that will be a PC game.

I've been very excited about inFamous but as the date drew nearer, I began to get some cold feet and the footage they put out a little while ago certainly didn't help matters much. I've been hemming and hawing about whether I should do what I want to do, which is pre-order the game and play it day 1 or do the more prudent thing, which is to wait, rent it and then buy it if I enjoy it.
Well, thankfully this trailer has swung me back into the Day 1 purchase side of the equation. I love Sucker Punch and the Sly games and the pedigree coupled with the very Crackdown feel from the latest trailer... SOLD!
And I think it will be one of the very, very few full priced console games I buy this year. It makes me sad to think about dropping $69+ tax on the sucker, but I think it's worth it.

Prototype looks to have more things to mess around with though.See, I'm just not nearly as interested in Prototype because it seems to be trying to hard. By that I mean, it's like, "LOOK HOW MUCH BLOOD WE CAN SQUEEZE FROM THIS GUY'S HEAD!" kind of trying to hard. I'm sure it'll be fun and all, but it's like they sat down and wanted to make XTREEEEME BLOODY GAME X instead of something with soul, which is the thing I get from looking at inFamous.
Plus I already have my ultraviolent game of the year. It's called MadWorld.

What is up with the demo for this? I went to get Killzone 2 at Best Buy yesterday and the pre-order box for this said you would get a code to access the demo on 5/8. I guess that is early demo access? You also get access to the Uncharted 2 MP beta around 6/3. I'm thinking about pre-ordering there, really want to play the demo for this.

The non pre-order demo drops on May 21st I believe. If you can wait that long you can do that. If you want in on the Uncharted 2 MP beta though you'd have to pick up a pre-order from one of the stores.

I think you might get suckered in by cool video and audio montage. did you forget how crap the game play looked on the videos a while back? Trailers aren't a good basis for buying games, hell, even demo's aren't.
I'm not saying this won't be good, I haven't played it, but the actual gameplay footage I saw didn't look like the trailers at all, just zap zap zap zap zap zap. I wouldn't order this before I read some raving stuff about it.
I easily have 10 games this year I would rather spend 60 bucks on. This isn't one.... yet. I'll keep it in mu pocket until the 9/10s keep pouring in, otherwise I'll happily wait for Dark Void/ Bionic Commando/ Prototype to live up to their hype, which all hit quite soon and might also be cool (or crap, I don't know either).

I'll be honest and say I was not impressed with the E3 showing last year of inFAMOUS. I'll certainly give it a chance, but those first impressions from E3 did not excite me very much.

I don't think you need to pre-order to get access to the Uncharted 2 demo, I believe I read somewhere that every early copy of the game will come with a beta code.
I was kinda on the fence about the game, but the combination of the very positive impressions I've been hearing from the recent play sessions the game has had along with the developer's pedigree (even if I didn't play their games) is enough for me. It looks very Crackdown-like, and that's a damn good thing.

Trailers aren't a good basis for buying games, hell, even demo's aren't. Here's the thing. It wasn't that I thought the gameplay looked like crap on the earlier videos. It was just completely out of context and there was no set-up or anything for it. I didn't NOT like what I was seeing. I just didn't know why the guy was doing or anything.
I hate watching people playing a game. It's incredibly boring. If there is at least a set-up to say, "This is why we're wandering around the park zappa-zapping people," well, I at least can appreciate what's going on.
Those videos were never dealbreakers with me. They just introduced a seed of doubt.

So, very very few full priced console games = 6 right? :D
This game is my #2 reason I have a PS3. The pain of being poor is eased somewhat when I can play a game like this on my $500 purchase...

According to the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/04/29/the-latest-infamous-video-power-trip/#comment-212495) it's a band called Working For A Nuclear Free City, the song is Silent Melody. It was done specifically for the game. It'll be on iTunes May 21st.

go evil, your lightning is red.
I generally go good in story-based games that give me the choice. Too often the other path doesn't so much feel like being evil as it does like being a dick, and that's less fun to me. Some games like Fable or Fallout I'll try both ways, but it's still easier for me to take the "good" path.
As for the Infamous demo -- I preordered yesterday, was I supposed to get a code then for the May 8 download? Because I didn't.

Where did you pre-order? Looks like different retailers have different bonus items. Gamestop has an in game power, amazon has a home outfit (heh), and Best Buy has the early demo access. I'm going over to Best Buy in a while, it's one of those pre-order boxes so maybe the code is already in the box. If not they will probably e-mail them.

Just got back from Best Buy, the code for the 5/8 demo access is in the box. If you go pick one up be sure to shake the box to see if the sheet with the code on it is in there, they had 4 boxes at the store I went to and only two had the codes inside. I guess that is what the "*while supplies last" means.

Ahh, I pre-ordered at Gamestop because I wanted the extra power. For some reason I thought that all pre-orders would get the demo access early, but then other extras were store-specific. The way they're doing it now is honestly quite retarded, and a trend I'd be all too happy to see disappear.
