Allow me to explain how this new joke works:
As we all know, I have the lousiest taste in games on this site. I know this to be true because Colony of Gamers told me so. As I have discovered, and that rare few here know, I happen to have a sweet tooth for niche titles. Be it stuff that no one has ever heard of or would ever go near, titles like these have turned out to be my calling.
This idea was originally taken from Everyone Loves Dinosaurs (Wonda Mic), only where he was looking to do a monthly pick for a select DS title for discussion, what I intend to do here is select a DS title that's pretty much on no one's radar. I currently have no set schedule, so these will pop up randomly whenever I run into something that I'd like to share with whoever's brave enough to try my picks.
Corny intro shelved and tossed to the side, my first pick will be Boing! Docomodake. This is a puzzler based off of a japanese mobile phone mascot where the goal is to lead main character, Papa Docomodake to the goal at the end of each area. There are a total of six worlds with eight stages each, and a seventh bonus level that's unlocked after completion of the sixth world.
Papa Docomodake is controlled with a combination of the stylus and d-pad/face buttons. Left/right & Y/A move Papa to the left or right, while Up/X allow him to jump. Papa Docomodake can run by tapping left/right twice. This method can be used to cross small 1-block gaps. Papa Docomodake can dig in certain spots with B/down. Last, Papa Docomodake and decrease his mass and split himself into smaller docomodake with a press of L/R. For stylus-related functions, if you touch Papa and drag the stylus from him, you can pull a small docodomake from him. From here, you can:
1. Tap the little guy to curl him up to toss at enemies or switches.
2. Stack docomodake to form a ladder to hard to reach places.
3. Use docomodake to fill in blocks for crossing over spikes/making bridges, etc.
I've been hooked from the very beginning since I've purchased the game back in March. The game has a nice difficulty curve as it slowly ramps up the farther you go, and there are all sorts of cool mechanics littered throughout as you progress. The ability to view the entire level at anytime is a nice touch, so you can see where you need to go, or scout ahead for potential dangers. And hey, it's only $19.99. How could you pass that up?
