I don't like Fox News, or most of the people on it (not much of a fan of MSNBC either for that matter), but Shepard Smith is like a beacon of light on the network. I was catching up on Colbert and they played the Shepard thing and it really did it for me. Hes just a guy with a sense of humor and integrity that realizes the network he is on has a large number of nutjobs, but he still comes in every day and does his job and trys to be honest and fair doing it.

Maybe it was unprofessional in a way, but I think it really showed what the guy is made of.
I consider him far more of a patriot than blow hards like Beck and Limbaugh.
His mocking of Glenn Beck on-air is pretty epic too.

From what little I've seen of the guy, he often comes off as a bit of a cocky attention whore to me, but I don't suppose that is much different from most other people on the network (again, from what I've seen). It wouldn't say this sudden - and rather short lived, I might add - outburst will really change that.

On the other hand, it still seems something of a strange comment considering the main point of contention is not whether we torture, but what is torture. According to some people, we still don't torture.

Oh they're all attention whores on the network. The difference (in my opinion) is that he has integrity and hes stays honest. He reports the news and doesn't generally try to spin it to predetermined viewpoint.

His outburst is the peak of it, but when he mocked Glenn Beck's crying act it was pretty priceless to me.

Oh, I didn't see the Beck-mocking thing...is it in the video above?

"He will be here from his fear chamber..."

Classic. If Shep Smith is getting hate mail because of his reactions to Glenn Beck, then Shep Smith must be doing something right. Beck is fucking bananas. And I don't mean the delicious kind.

"He is the greatest star of all time, and I am here to worship..."

His faces in the camera while hes talking are fucking priceless.

I actually hadn't seen this footage till I looked for it.
Shepard went up 10 points on the awesome scale after seeing it.

I feel like he sees himself as the last bastion for integrity among the Histrionics Gang: Hannity & Beck. Have you seen Hannity's 'Lib-er-al Trans-la-tion' bit? It's like the Daily Show without good writers.

Unfortunately, I doubt Smith has much more of a career as Year Two through Four in the Obama administration pass. If Beck's ratings are as they say they are, Smith's role won't fit FOX's audience.

The guy has charisma and is a decent reporter, he could probably get a job at CNN if he got canned.

As far as Beck's ratings I think there a lot of people watching to mock him and see what insane shit hes going to say. They don't neccessarily all agree with him on everything (though I'm sure the majority probably do).

Shep Smith is one of the few sane people at Fox. His coverage during Katrina was solid, and he's pretty consistently shown himself to actually have a little bit of integrity.

Esquire had a pretty great profile of him a while back:

Definitely seems like the kind of guy I could enjoy having a conversation with. Sure, he seems like a bit of an asshole, but so am I.
