Okay, I bought the game last night, installed and started playing at 930pm-ish. Just wanted to "see how it played". After a few "just a 10 more minutes" moments, it was midnight. That's a good thing, though. It means this game is more of the same addictive goodness that we're used to.

I'm much too new to the game to give any sort of review, so let's leave it to Ox over on PiRi (http://www.playitreviewit.com/reviews/pc/strat/sid-meier%27s-civilization-iv--colonizatio/0cU4O2Vy/1) to coincidentally post a review yesterday. He's definitely played a lot more than me and, unlike me, he has played the original that this version is a remake of. He's mentions, as well, some issues I haven't encountered yet either. Overall, though, for $29.99, I have no problem recommending this game to Civ 4 vets. I bought the hard copy as well (as opposed to the Steam version), so I did get a nice fat fancy manual that I've yet to go through either.

Overall, as a new comer to the Colonization game, I made the error of trying to play it as I would start out on Civ 4. The nice in-game tutorial notes, though, quickly got me on the right track and before you know it I was running guns to the Native Americans and paying far too much in tax to the King.

Yah, I was planning to get this, but then I played the demo for King's Bounty. I'm proud of myself for sticking to my guns and holding off on King's Bounty for now...though I will crack soon. One game at a time, though :)

I remember loving the original Colonization. Good times. I might have to pick this up. :)

I just got into this over the weekend and I'm really loving it. It's kind of like a mashup of Railroads! and Civ IV. Despite probably a dozen or so hours in the game, and several restarts, I've yet to find my strategy though. I had one game where I was doing pretty well, or at least I thought so until I realized that I was way behind in liberty bell production and didn't have enough turns left to declare independence.

I'm also starting to notice that trade is a lot more important than I thought originally. I mean, I knew the game was about trade, but I was mostly focusing on trade between my colonies. Now it seems like I need 2-3 merchantmen, minimum, going back and forth between Europe later in the game to make the best use of my resources.

My only chief complaint is how long it takes to train specialists after the first couple times. Also, I wish that there were a way to specify a maximum as well a minimum amount of goods you want in a city in automated trade. Once I hit my warehouse limit I just want the game to take the extra to anywhere with the storage capacity so I don't waste it.

It is fun. I've really gotten back into DF, so I haven't played as much as I had been, but will get back to it in a bit.

I've been reading about some issues at CivFanatics and have discovered a community made patch to fix as many of these bugs as possible. I haven't had the chance to download and try out the patch, but the description sounds like it is worth it.

Two games that I love! I never got all the hate directed at Railroads!, it's just a nice pretty and relaxing game.

I think there is a diminishing returns on this one...I read something somewhere about that, that when training as well, other training slows down or something.

Yeah, I understand that. I just think they diminish way too quickly, especially for specialists like tobacco planters and trappers that can't be purchased in Europe and must be trained.
