...if you have Blu-Ray movies on your queue.

It's only an extra $1 (plus applicable taxes), but I got a little miffed when I read the e-mail. I mean, it makes sense, being that Blu-Rays are still so much more expensive than DVDs to purchase. But... ack. I guess this is better than a $5 boost, or higher.

Does not compute.

Sorry, should've posted this with my OP - here's the e-mail I (and I'm sure a bunch of other people) got today:

They get these things in bulk....I don't understand raising the rate at this point in time.

I think that's my big beef with it. Their excuse is that "As you know, Blu-Ray movies are more expensive". If that's REALLY the reason, why didn't a price bump go into effect when they started offering Blu-Ray movies?

$1 price hike? Fine. However, I'd like if they justified it a little more... transparently. Hell, I'd have even been fine with "with the economy on the downturn, lots less people are spending their disposable income on a Netflix subscription. So you, as an owner of an HD-capable media device, have to eat the cost."

Again, early adopters getting screwed. LOL

I'd actually understand the raise in rates more if the shipping costs increased....I'd almost bet the shipping costs them more than the actual disks do.

That's a good point - and I'm betting you're right.

I love that you have to opt-out of the $1 charge instead of opting-in for the (likely minority) customers that have Blu-ray.

They're just looking to get one month of people not remembering to cancel it and all the money it will get them.

$12 a year is really not that big a deal. That's less than half the price of buying a new Blu-ray movie.

That's only the case if you've put a Blu-ray into your queue. I haven't, and they aren't trying to bill me any extra. In that regard it's sort of an opt-in, as long as they let you know when you put a Blu-ray in your queue that it's going to cost you (which they do.)

I honestly didn't think they'd go to the effort of filtering who they charged extra and who they didn't. On that front, kudos to them.

This was announced awhile ago to prepare people for it. I have a feeling that with low demand, Netflix cannot get very good wholesale rates for the Blu-Rays.

It's a bummer, but I'm still going to keep receiving bluray movies. It's worth the $1 a month to me.

I'm not even sure he's that mad about it...this is almost a news post, really.

Not a big deal at all to me. I rent WAY more than I buy these days, so I figure I'm still coming out ahead.

I remember a few months ago there were people losing their shit over this and the rate increase over the cost of postage going up because of the fuel crunch.

Where are all of those fucktards? Without them around my whiskey bottle hurling will draw attention around here.
