As a few of you know, I quit my job the end of last year and have been working on a project of sorts ever since. I am nearing the final stretch before going beta ( which I will debut here ) but in the meanwhile, I could use a bit of help.
I need to check out my services email functionality on a variety of mobile devices. Problem is, I currently only have an iPhone and old school Palm and Blackberry to try with and currently can't afford to spend on such things.
If you currently have a (graphical) email capable Smartphone ( new BB, Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile, Sidekick, etc... ) and are willing to spend a few minutes helping me out with something, I would greatly appreciate it! Plus, I will guarantee you a spot in the beta, if you are interested. Also, I promise 100% privacy regarding your email address.
Please let me know in this thread, or PM me your email ( and phone type ).
Thanks a (metric) ton!

I have an HTC Diamond running WinMo 6.1, but our Exchange server isn't 2007 so I can't get HTML messages (i.e. emails with pictures). Can I still help?

Any chance you can access hotmail, gmail or some other service with that phone? I am pretty sure no image support would totally break my service.
I hadnt realized that was a Exchange 2003 limit, odd.

I was curious about this, so I searched a little. Came up with this:HTML e-mail support in Windows Mobile 6 is actually one of the few new Messaging features that doesn’t necessarily require Exchange 2007, but there’s a hideous catch.
Windows Mobile 6 supports HTML e-mail over pretty much any transport you want, including POP, IMAP and ActiveSync. You simply set the type of e-mail you want when you configure a given e-mail account on your device, as shown in this example of a POP account…
So where’s the catch? Grab hold of a chair and get ready to throw it in the general direction of the 98052 zip code.
When using Exchange 2003 OTA AKA Over The Air via Direct Push, HTML e-mail is NOT supported…
However, using Exchange 2003 via a local AKA cabled/Bluetooth/IR ActiveSync connection does support HTML e-mail…
Show of hands for everyone who wants their e-mail synchronization to only happen when they are connected via a cable or other local ActiveSync connection?
Yeah, didn’t think so.
However, if you are using Exchange 2007, then you have full HTML e-mail support OTA using Direct Push to your Windows Mobile 6 device.http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2007/11/the-truth-about-html-e-mail-on-windows-mobile-6.html
I personally don't have a smartphone. I do want to try a smartphone, or at least a dumbphone with a decent browser, but I really use my phone so little that I don't know that it's worth it to pay for a smartphone plan ($70/mo at a minimum).

Ok, I'm being a div. If you send me a mail to dangerousdaze@gmail.com I can pick it up, graphics and all. I forgot I could just add the gmail account to my mobile - WinMo 6 even auto-configures it for you. ;)

God your local rate suck.
I am paying 50$ CDN for an iPhone plan. Its only 500mb, but ironically, I have never once came close to using that amount, thanks to wifi support.
I always thought Americans had MUCH cheaper data rates than here in Canada.

I'm limited to Alltel or Verizon. For smartphones (and a couple of the more advanced non-smartphones), the plans (with voice & data) start at $69.99/mo + tax. You can use a smartphone on a non-smartphone plan, but you'd have to buy it off-contract (phone costs a lot more).

Just curious, but is there an unlimited email plan available cheaply from your provider?

For Symbian, Nokia just released this:

Just curious, but is there an unlimited email plan available cheaply from your provider? That $70 plan at Alltel includes "Unlimited E-mail and Web Access on Primary Line."
I'm still unsure whether web/e-mail use consumes minutes from your voice plan. But there isn't a MB limit for data on that plan.
I guess Verizon's plans are a little different - you can get a Smartphone without a smartphone plan. But if you take the cheapest voice plan ($40) and add the Web/Email option ($30), you end up at the same price. Looks like they have a Data Only (no voice) plan for $50/mo.

I'm paying about $70 a month for unlimited data and internet, 400 minutes, and 200 texts. I have Sprint now, but I had Verizon. I liked Verizon, but so far Sprint hasn't done me wrong. I'm using the VX6800 Mogul.
edit: the 400 minutes of talk includes free nights and weekends and free mobile to mobile. I rarely ever reach 400 minutes a month.

Anyone else?
Especially newer Blackberry users?

I'm limited to Alltel or Verizon.
Why would you be limited to those two companies?
I'd help if I could, but no smart phone here yet. I'm waiting for my contract to burn out at Sprint this June, then I have to decide between the Palm Pre or jump ship to AT&T and grab an iPhone.

Why would you be limited to those two companies?Location.
There are possibly other options, but those are the only major carriers with decent coverage in my area. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile are out. They either have no coverage or roaming only. Their websites say they don't offer service for my zipcode. U.S. Cellular looks like it has coverage on their map, but the site says they don't offer service here.

I gave the service a try but I just seem to be getting raw MIME code instead of the page. This could be a gmail problem though.

You know, I thought this thread was about you calling all smartphone users.
I'm disappointed.
