Collectors editions of major game release have become de rigeur by this point, but every now and then a cool one comes along. Last week we had the Batman CE with complete with Batarang (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=7350), now we get word of the Amazon exclusive "Slimer Edition" (http://www.amazon.com/Ghostbusters-Amazon-com-Exclusive-Slimer-Xbox-360/dp/B0025UOYR8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1239740519&sr=1-9) for Ghostbusters. In addition to the game, this CE contains the following goodies.

An exclusive Slimer bust designed and created by the original movie sculptor, Steve Johnson (pictured above). Comes complete with a certificate of authenticity signed by the sculptor himself.
Exclusive Ghostbusters Minimates. Only be available with the Slimer Edition.
Exclusive Ghostbusters Gamer Graffix Console Skins.
Exclusive Ecto 1 Key Chain with lights and sound.

The Slimer Edition will ship alongside the game on June 16. While the Slimer Edition will only be available for the PS3, 360 and Wii, the game itself will also appear on the PC, PS2 and DS.

I've never heard of Steve Johnson and didn't even know they had a sculptor on Ghostbusters....but I guess the fact that he did that bust and signed something saying he did it makes this worth it for someone. Not me but someone.

I've got enough toys & trinkets that just take up space, no more.

I was interested (for the first time in a CE) until the price of the 360 version. will stick to just renting the game.

Price is way over the top. The Batman CE is pretty expensive, but I can just about reach it for a Batarang. This isn't quite cool enough for it.

If they had a light-up Ecto-1 the size of the 1:18 DeLorean that just came out, I might be interested. However, this...not so much.

That shit looks so Happy Meal.

Very true. I'll bet it glows in the dark or something.

What's a minimate?

What went through the heads of the people creating Ghosbusters Collectors Edition:

"How do we turn a few dollars worth of plastic into millions in profit?"

Minimates are small, fairly deformed action figures who are actually pretty articulated for their small size. They're made by a company called Art Asylum who have done a ton of licensed characters including dozens of Marvel characters, Lord of the Rings, etc.

Here (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/15303) are some pics of some Ghosbusters minimates from Toy Fair, though whether any of them are the exclusive ones, who knows.

Cool, thanks.

They're pretty neat, but not worth this CE's price tag.

Apparently Sony has now snagged the publishing rights to the game:

Sony Computer Entertainment will now be publishing Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters title in a surprise deal signed with Atari today, just one month before the game was set to ship, GamesIndustry.biz has learned.

The game is set for a June 19 release alongside the Sony Pictures film, but only on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 platforms, which will have a period of exclusivity lasting several months until the PlayStation Portable edition is launched.

It is unclear exactly what will happen to the Xbox 360 version of the game, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that Atari may look to publish that itself later on.
