Google's sphere of influence is just getting bigger and bigger. Today the internet search giant pushed it's AdSense for Games product into open beta. Right now AdSense for Games service is only targeting Flash based browser games - which according to Dean Takahashi accounts for over 200 million plays and billions of play-minutes each month - but could in the future spread to other forms of gaming. The ads would be inserted before, after and sometimes even during a game session. The service could also be used to amend advertising to Flash-based video applications like YouTube.
The in-game advertising market began small, but has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few years. The Yankee Group predicts that by 2011 Google's AdSense for Games will be vying with rivals NeoEdge Networks, Microsoft’s Massive, Double Fusion and IGA Worldwide for a nearly $1 billion yearly pot.
