Me and my neighbor wrote a metal song about L4D as we are addicted to it like crack.

It is called "Don't Startle The Witch" and is far from serious, but we did put a bit of time into it.

Bash away, I can take it.

The title of this song actually makes me think of a serious gameplay topic.

In what I've played of L4D, it seems that people (at least in campaign mode), nearly always position themselves to carefully kill the witch, as opposed to avoiding startling her altogether. Is this because the witch is so often in a place where it is impossible to sneak past her, or just because people prefer to kill her and it's not that hard?

It's harder (after patch), they prefer to try and usually screw up in the process. Campaign mode is fine as you can respawn, versus mode sucks when you get a "hero".

Oooohhh, I forgot the words... here they are... 100% cheese.

Dark soulless eyes and pale skin
No light inside if looked within
Don't need to see her if you listen for her cries

It can end quickly if you try to wear the crown
Wasting bullets, wasting time, you've let your party down

Don't startle the witch
You know she doesn't like suprise
She'll bring you inches of your life
If no one else is there, to hear it when you scream then you will die

You need achievements but there is a better time
It's best to try when not in versus mode online
Don't be a hero and stick to the task at hand
Single file you'll watch my back we'll make it to the end

Don't startle the witch
You know she doesn't like suprise
She'll bring you inches of your life
If no one else is there, to hear it when you scream then you will die

What would have made that perfect is to have captured the scream that occasionally comes from Francis. The one that makes you wonder how butch he really is.

I enjoyed the song.

Heh, I actually thought about sampling a tad but did not want to use any of their assets. During the middle breakdown I may immitate a few choice one liners and add them.

Do I look like one of them
Zoeys "reloading"
Get this thing off of me
etc...

Great idea though, I think my neighbor does an excellent job of screaming like a woman, perhaps he will let me sample a few :)

Thanks for the listen!

Hahahaha this is fucking epic Tripps. I love how you weave in and out of genres with your tunes. I guess living in Alaska gives you lots of time inside, though ;)

Hehe, thanks Torr.

On music, I actually try 110% to write a different genre as often as possible. The best way to do this is avoid the top 100 like the plague and listen to shit most people don't wanna hear anymore :)

Another recent attempt is Black Gospel + Rock, still a tad rough but check it if you like. More fitting for my vocal range if nothing else.

CptTripps - It's a fun song. I enjoyed it. To really move metal forward, you have to come up with riffs and interludes though, this is new lyrics on old music. . . which is honestly what I expect from most amateur heavy metal bands. It's what I hear every time I go out to a local show. However, since you guys seem to have the fundamentals down, maybe it is time to start trying to do new things. That is what is making heavy metal bands now. There is still room for you at the table if you can come up with a sound as fresh and interesting as that of System of the Down.

As far as this song goes the only constructive constructive criticism I can give is on the backup singing as the rest is solid. You can't do a falsetto if you don't absolutely commit to it. This guy sounds self-conscious like he knows it sounds bad and is just doing it to get it done. He needs to go down an octave or go up a 100 decibels (or both). If you have someone who can scream-sing, that would be excellent.

Ok, I don't know how to respond to this. Two drunk guys and with some mics wrote a joke song about a videogame, we are not trying to move metal forward as the last thing I want to do is start a metal band. Metal just seemed the best fit for the game.

I wrote this in an hour and 80's metal was my intention as that is what I grew up listening to. Also, I thought butt metal would be funnier.

I appreciate you taking your time, but your input seems to lean towards the thought that I was serious when I wrote it.

The drummer, he is in a metal band of course, they have some songs on myspace. DecepticideAK something like that. They have all those horrible blast beats and 100% screaming that everyone seems to love so much nowadays.

I laughed for like 10 minutes at bean's post, if it makes ya feel any better Tripps. THERE'S NO ROOM FOR YOU AT THE TABLE.

Also, I really dig Curse my name, that's an interesting experiment. I think you need to up the "rock" ante on that blend a little bit though, if you ask me.

I agree, it needs to explode on the rock part alas drumming is my weakest link. My other neighbor (more rock oriented drummer) did lay a new track but I have not mixed it yet. Was just an example of differnt styles, I wrote that one morening after falling asleep on the couch to "O brother where art though" :)

No, I dig it actually (And clearly heard the O brother influence, before you even mentioned it.) I think I'm saying you should experiment here more with a overall more driving feel...not necessarily change THIS song too much.

I think we're on the same page, his drumming is pretty much the same just tighter. When I said the mix needs to explode I meant the drums just need to be mixed powerfull, not really played any different. That is what you mean yes?

Yes. Very much so. Although, when I followed up, I think I meant you should experiment with something going forward that has a bit more of a rock core and a gospel background (it feels like a gospel core with a rock background right now), if you catch my drift.

I actually really like this combination.

Just a quick post...

This week I will be releasing the final version of this song. I hooked up online with a very talented metal singer (Jason Russo formerly of Herod and many other projects). He is almost finished with the vox, I am working on a final mix (and a better solo) and I guarantee it will be far better, bordering on epic.

Do you mind sending me a mp3 link in PM? I can't get it to play in that player.
