I figured this would be a good place to, not only give you guys a sneak peek at my review of Batman Gotham Knight, but also spark a discussion

Pardon the whoring, but the full review goes up on my site tomorrow morning.

I recently had a chance to enjoy the Batman Gotham Knight video care of Cartoon Network. It is not really a movie, not really a set of television episodes. It features a set of six vignettes by different writers and animators. I particularly liked the style of the first, Have I got a Story for You, and the story of the fifth, Working Through Pain. Each vignette also offers an interesting evolution of The Batman. Though always Kevin Conroy, which was disconcerting as some of the episodes featured his throaty tones with a wispy Aeon Flux inspired Bruce Wayne, the art style of Batman evolved from a spartan sketch to the Frank Miller style to the armor clad Dark Knight from the films.

Has anyone else been interrested in this? I much prefer the recent Justice League America Movie, but I found one part of this story to be powerful.

I bought this the day it came out and really liked it. I agree, it was strange to hear Kevin Conroy speak through a twiggy anime guy, but you get over it.

Beats the growling from the movie.

I hated the first story as I felt it was a rip of a memorable TAS episode, the kids were annoying, and Batman was too... vulnerable?
It really picked up after that, for me, though. Working Through Pain was the best for sure.

Gotham Knight... was that the one done like the animatrix? If its the one i'm thinking of I liked the one with kids each telling of their encounter with batman as well as the 'no more guns' themed one. Overall a solid video.

I really enjoyed it. After all these years, I've finally realized that the only Batman I enjoy is the Dark Knight version. I like the extremely gritty, depressed, death all around Batman tales much more than anything with a remote amount of happiness in it.

I don't think Square is making movies like that anymore.

Unless you count the FF games.

They did FF: Advent Children. That was after their studio closing. <shrug>
It's publicity and I don't know why they would turn it down.

If I recall properly, and Wikipedia is so hard to access to find this out, but weren't the FF movies a joint Square-Sony venture? With Sony and Square highly strained, the movies just fell away? I seem to recall the first FF movie met with financial success.

Was Advent Children produced by Sony? I think the Spirit's Within was considered a dud. I couldn't say for Advent Children.

Yeah, it's a big, fucking dud. 32 million made on a $137 million dollar movie qualifies as Speed Racer-esque.

Advent Children didn't have a proper theater release, so who knows what it made.
