FedEx dropped off my first Microsoft coffin today. This one's for my Zune which ate it a couple months ago, I finally remembered to call before the warranty ran out.

So now that I've joined the elite ranks of coffin recipients is there some kind of ritualistic dance I'm supposed to do as I put this sucker back in the mail?

Fuckers aren't even sending me a coffin for my 360. I have to mail it in.

That blows, wasn't that big chunk of change they sunk into their 360 support division a while back supposed to cover all repair returns?

You would think.

That just makes me even more surprised to see they're sending my Zune to the repair center in Texas via Standard Overnight. I don't even do that for repairs for clients at work unless absolutely necessary.

Yeah, I tried to get the guy on the phone to send me a box but he wouldn't. Whatever. I just got my email so I can print the label and ship it off tomorrow.

3 weeks with no 360. What to do, what to do...

It's odd, because working at a UPS Store, I still see people coming in with the standard 360 coffin boxes that Microsoft sends them. The big difference I've noticed is that MS used to use 3 Day Shipping and now its standard Ground. While there has been more people coming in with shipping labels printed out and using their own boxes, the MS coffins still come in, so they're still giving them out.

Well, that's just more infuriating. Why didn't I get a box?

Whatever.

BTW: can you buy a box at the UPS store? I went to go ship my stuff today and the store I was going to had closed (but no one told google directions), so I didn't find out. I just don't have any boxes.

You have to request the box these days; at least, I did with my second repair. Otherwise they just send you the label. They claim it's to "speed up the process" so you don't have to wait on the box, but it sure as hell isn't any more convenient.

Yeah, UPS Stores sell boxes and will box things up for you for an extra fee. All the stores are different (franchised), so some will be happy to sell you the box and tape it up for you, others will make you buy the box and a thing of tape. If that's the case, just have them box it, its usually cheaper. If you opt to have them box it for you, make sure they know its broken, otherwise they'll use lots of bubble wrap and peanuts which cost $$.
