LucasArts, BioWare unveiling new game Oct. 21 (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/lucasarts-bioware-unveiling-new-game-oct-21/)

God I hope it's that KOTOR MMORPG I've been hearing so much about. This would bring me back to PC gaming.

KOTOR MMO?

Yes please!

It seems pretty much confirmed that it's the KOTOR MMO, what with the whole Lucas Arts + Bioware combo. I'm interested to see how this looks. On one hand, I'm a huge Bioware fan and usually eat up everything they put out. On the other hand, MMO's are a genre that I really can't get behind. The whole "grind, loot, level" formula just doesn't work for me. Coming from Bioware I expect something with a strong emphasis on story (after all that is their company line), and I don't currently see how they plan to fit that into an MMO. Good stories need to be carefully paced. MMO's need to be perpetual. I don't see how you reconcile those two with each other. Also, this definitely sheds some light on why EA so eagerly forked over $800 million for these guys.

I think I'm going to be too busy with LBP and Far Cry 2 to care.

Get back to working on Mass Effect 2! Bad Bioware!

This actually excites me because we may be able to get our RP group together on this. I'm hesitant about the 4,000 years before the movies thing.

Its pretty much the only way to have a star wars MMO where every player who wants to do so can be a Jedi or a Sith. Plus it will hopefully keep George Lucas far, far away from any of the story or dialogue writing.

If I can play as a smuggler with no connection to the force, and doing so involves actual smuggling, and not just generic missions with smuggler related text, I may be interested.

I'd say this was a sure thing...but after the whole Galaxies episode...I'm afraid. I'm very afraid...

Yeah, I understand the Jedi thing, but setting it in late Republic times, or even post New Jedi Order would be really interesting, but have to deal with the red tape of existing stories.

I don't want an MMO, I want a KOTOR 3. /frustrated I'll play it anyway. Is it sad that announcements about announcements do make me a smidgen excited?

With the late republic you can't really have large numbers of Sith, though I don't know how things stand in the expanded universe after the films. The Old Republic gives them lots of scope for large scale Jedi/Sith PvP.

Balon Windu... The name I gave Revan before he had a name.

It could be anything at this point and I'd buy it. But yeah: KOTOR MMO and I would cold pass out. And maybe pee a little.

I wonder will this include the Exile and Revan. It could be just a regular old KOTOR 3 though. Who knows.

Finally, the Star Wars MMO that should have been released initially(well, if they really learned from the mistakes of the last one).

This could be the MMO that will make me care about playing MMOs again.

On the one hand, this piques my interest, but on the other hand, I am in no way excited about the prospect of MMOs, and never plan on playing one myself.

For the most part, my thoughts. But then again, BioWare hasn't been as good since Neverwinter Nights. KotOR was OK, but they seem to focused on the extremes instead of the gray areas.

Either this game could be a ton of midly powered Jedi, or all the NPCs that you encounted in KotOR1/2. And there is the fact that the SOE office in Austin (or was it Dallas?) that was integrated into BioWare. SOE + MMO = meh.

Ooo, Didn't think of that the Jedi/Sith PVP. There is some in the expanded universe....Shadow Academy etc. Apparently in the Legacy comics too

I said the same thing before playing WoW. :D

Getting a chance to play the beta stress test pushed me over the line.

A mixture of not wanting to pay a monthly fee (yeah, I have a double standard because I play for LIVE gold) and a worry that I would get addicted to doing a mindless task keeps me away from MMOs.

I got tired of WoW when the guild I was in started complaining about goldfarmers ruining the economy. :(

I loved Battlegrounds though. If only there was a online game that let me participate in those.

Well, if it's been rumored for years, hopefully they've been actually working on it for years and we won't have to wait another two years to play it.

Also, announcements about announcements? These guys need to get a new shtick.

Nice to see you made it here. How about an announcement for an announcement that lets the announcement slip for a change? I don't mean vague hints either, I mean it would say "Join us as we announce the KOTOR MMO October 21st".

Also, I'd rather have a Mass Effect MMO, personally.

I completely agree. It'd be nice to have a console MMO like Phantasy Star Online with ME classes.
