View Full Version : Facebook vs. Firefox

So I am a devout Firefox user. Love it.

I have never had any issues with Facebook on Firefox. Yet just the other day Facebook started telling me my browser didn't have cookies enabled and that I should do so otherwise I wasn't allowed to log in. Funny thing is, cookies are enabled all over the place for Facebook. It's a goddamn cookie play date! I tried removing the cookies and logging in. No luck.

Of course, I can get in just fine via IE but that's not what I want.

Anyone run into this before?

I think the problem is that you are trying to log into Facebook. Perhaps if you stopped doing that for a while, things would take care of themselves.

In other words, no idea.

Yes, I know how much gamer philistines hate social sites. :D

But thanks for trying to help. lol

I've been having problems with Youtube vids not loading in the latest Firefox build.

Me too! lol It just started recently after the last auto update. It'll start and then sit there "transferring data" and stop playing.

It is a real pain in the ass.

I did have some issues after using the beta client. I de-installed and removed everything I could for a fresh install and it seemed to take care of my issues.

I've been using Chrome in the interim for this reason. The net without Youtube is a scary thought.

I've never had a problem with Youtube vids not loading, but I have with them crashing Firefox. Think that is just a Linux problem, though.

Latest version of FF, and facebooks works just fine. As does YouTube. However, GameTrailers seems to lack sound since last FF update. OH NOES.

I have a LOT of problems with Firefox and various sites. Every time I have an internet problem, IE will run the site fine.

It's frustrating. My wife does part-time web development/design, so I know that it's not practical to test a web site for every build of every browser with every combination of users.

Still, though. It's enough to make me think about switching back to IE for the simple fact that I really want websites to just work - they all work with IE. Which sucks, because I really like Firefox better for navigating the web.

About the only time I run into problems with Firefox, other than what I've mentioned already, is on really Flash heavy pages.

I agree with you though. Firefox is so superior to IE it's really a step backwards to use it. Bleah.

Most Firefox problems can generally be traced to an add-on.

I created a facebook acct solely to play the D&D Mini Adventures.
I use Firefox, and every once in a while when i try to log in it tells me I don't have cookies enabled, blah, blah, blah.

If I reload the page it goes...so eh. :D

How is it?

The new Facebook UI sucks balls. While it looks clean enough, navigation is a royal pita.

To get youtube working you uninstall flash here:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_ax.html
and install beta here:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Then it works like a charm

It's extra clicks for the same information.

Worthless.

It's pretty fun for what it is. You don't control much about your character except what class you pick at the start and equipment as you go. But you have about a half dozen varieties of equipment. Weapons, armor, helmets, rings, shields, boots, etc.

You basically pick an adventure made up of 8-18 separate missions, and around every 10 real-time minutes, it tells you how the current mission resulted. It shows you the rolls and a narrative, as well as a quick summary of damage taken and/or treasure acquired. Then you either change equipment/drink potions and so on during the next 10 minute pause or just leave it be if you're fine as you are.

Since it works on a real-time lapsed basis, I tend to run it in the background when I'm working on something or just browsing the web. Sometimes I come back after an hour and several missions will have passed. So it's not that interactive, but still a fun little background time waster.

...and that was way more text than I intended to type...but it's about D&D. I'm such a nerd. :D

Firefox had become a big pain in my ass. It wouldn't load many very legitimate sites, like ebay, myspace, facebook, etc. I use Chrome now, and haven't had one problem.

I've had more issues with IE than I've ever had with Firefox, and I haven't had any trouble with the 3.x.x builds. I suppose it always comes down to add ons or the difference in people's machines.

Chrome is pretty nice, though the lack of an OSX version is confusing. I know they're using a Webkit base, same as Safari, but it shouldn't stop them from doing a proper release.

The YouTube problem appears to be with Flash. Over the past few years, I've noticed Flash requiring more and more resources and becoming less and less stable. I've moved to Chrome which handles memory space of plugins and tabs better, preventing Flash from totally destroying the whole browser.

As a former Flash developer, I never ever thought I would be anti-Flash. Yet here I am, slowly becoming a convert all because of what appears to be sloppy programming.

I don't think I really like it, but I'm starting to get tired of people bitching about it (no offense). It's just all the stupid groups and all that. "Join this group and we'll get the old facebook back!!111"
It gets old.
