Everyone was talking about a possible price drop at GDC, although with no announcements during the show, the earliest people expected to hear something was at E3. The rumor now is that something big is coming on the 31st, and luckily for us, David Jaffe, erstwhile God of War director and now professional loud-mouth and man about town—and I use those words with the most respect possible; Jaffe is a breath of fresh air in this industry—has come out to say that yes, a price drop is coming.

"Best GDC tidbit that I can share: A little Fishie told me about an upcoming $100 price break for ALL PS3 SKU's. Full software BC too?" he twittered on March 28. On Sunday it seemed as if someone wasn't happy about the news. "Sorry guys, not going to delete 'that update,'" he said. Update software backwards compatibility? This rumor suddenly became delicious.

Personally I think this is probably true. I mean I guess we are just taking the guy at his word, but since he kinda implies he was asked to take the status down, there might be some truth to it. If it is true, I'd expect a HUGE boost to sales, since the price drop and the BC update removes two of the worst things about the PS3. Especially the price drop.

I hope so. I feel taking out BC was a mistake, and if my 60gig eventually dies (given the track record with PS1 and PS2, that's a safe assumption), I'd like to replace it with a fully BC machine.

Hell, what I'd really love is a "slim" PS3, maybe the size of the original PS2 or smaller, with all the capabilities of the original 60gig models. And while I'm dreaming, I'd like a million dollars too.

If this is true I will own a PS3 by the end of May... I hope it's true.

Um yeah, no. There is an update on the source: It was a fake twitter account.

Yea, Ben got totally swindled on Twitter. I'm going to shut this for massive fail on his behalf.
