Looks like my current gaming obsession is getting an update. The game has been patched to version 1.20. The PS3 patch has been pushed through, with the 360 version expected later today.
General:

• Implemented protection against disc read errors. May reduce or eliminate crashes experienced by some users.
• Players will no longer be able to change the “Friendly Fire” setting during the Cat & Mouse diversion.
• Players will no longer be able to access the weapon radial menu during the Demolition Derby activity, including all Special Derbies.
• Correcting an issue with scripted attack helicopters not firing missiles during missions.
• Added in code support for upcoming DLC. (Players will not notice anything different for this)

Multiplayer:
• A countdown timer has now been added to the lobby to aid in starting games quicker.
• Pipe Bombs will be removed from the default MP weapon loadout when a game begins.
• The default time / score limit for Team Gangsta Brawl will change from “5 min / 25 kills” to “10 min / 50 kills”.
• A 5 second period of invincibility will be applied to respawning players. Once an invulnerable player performs an attack, the effect will be removed. Invulnerability will be displayed by a special health bar indicator.
But there is one big change not listed: Volition is wiping the leaderboards on both versions of the game. The MP tweaks being implemented in this patch necessitate such a reset.

Volition has also announced that DLC for the game is on the way, but didn't specify what sort of DLC.

I've been hoping they would put out some DLC for this. Hopefully some more story stuff, maybe another gang. SR2 is pure fun, especially in co-op.

It has been my gaming obsession for quite a while now and I just started playing MP so this patch really works in my favor... Anyone wants to play, hit me with a PM...

Loved this game. Hated the first. Hope to see DLC soon, as a return to Stillwater would be welcome.

Honestly, last year seemed like it was custom designed for me with GTA4 and SR2.

I've got SR2 out on rental at the moment, I absolutely love it. It's everything that GTA4 should have been. Not that I didn't enjoy GTA4, it's just that I now realise what was wrong with it: it wasn't GTA4, because SR2 is GTA4. Or something.

I need to pick this up on the cheap. This patch just increases that desire.

Its worth every penney regardless if you paid 1st day price ($60) for it or not...

Amazon seems to put it on sale every so often, so keep an eye out there.

Okay. Apparently, I'm going to be the dick in this thread. (What's new?) I love Saints Row 2 on the 360 right now, but out of all the stuff that could be fixed, this is what they settled on? Really?!

1. Except for the one item about disc read errors, much of this patch is about multiplayer and DLC. I understand the urge to get DLC (money) going, but how about actually fixing the base game first?

2. Lest we forget the poor PC version, what about fixing that travesty of a port into at least some form of playablilty for more than the 2% of people out there?

What's broken? I don't remember any problems and I played through the entire game, played a bunch of co-op, etc.

I crashed at least 20 times playing co -op with my buddy living about 15 miles away...

There's plenty of glitches, world holes, and missing textures. Nothing too serious, but certainly some polish could be applied to the game.

I really do like the game a lot. I've had a ton of fun with it so far, but the terrible PC port and the handling of the bugs in this game has convinced me that the Volition of old is gone forever. :(

The handling of the PC version of SR2 is really sad/pathetic. I was looking forward to it, but after hearing all of the complaints about how poor it was I decided to pass. Volition doesn't really appear to care, which is too bad.

Thanks, Telefrog and Mags. You answered the very question I was about to ask.
If I picked this up, it would most likely be on Steam, so until I hear that the PC version is solid, it's going to remain a no-sale as far as I'm concerned.
