Capcom has announced that Bionic Commando will be on store shelves for the PS3 and 360 on May 19, with a PC version shipping shortly afterwards.
In this sequel to the NES classic, you return as Nathan Spencer. Hailed as a hero for his fight against the Imperials, Spencer is betrayed and imprisoned. When a terrorist cell attacks and occupies a city, Spencer is the only man who can save the day. In other words: he's Jack Bauer with a mechanical arm.

I really hope this is good, the gameplay from trailers so far looks quite fun.

The original was one of my all time favorites on the NES. I am really hoping this will turn out well.

I never knew he actually had a name in the NES version, although I'm guessing it mentioned it in the manual. He was simply "The Bionic Commando" to me and everyone else I knew.

Nope (http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/manp4.html) just "you the player".

I was actually turned off by the previous gameplay videos. I wonder why I want this now.

It's the lure of the grappling hook. It pulls you in. See what I did there?

The only issues I can remember were draw distance and swing controls. The latter just has to do with a learning curve. Hopefully it works well.

2009, Year of the 3D person action adventure?
I mean we have, Batman, Uncharted, BC, Just Cause 2, Prototype, iNfamous, etc, etc.
I'm not complaining, but it seems everyone is doing one.

I got the game now, haven't started playing though. Since I was the first to get it I also got to pick out a piece of concept art the store got from the developers, that they have had on display:

If you get this game, don't install it to the hard drive. It seems to cause weird syncing issues with the audio, at least from what I can tell.
So far I'm a bit "meh" on the game. The swinging mechanic took a few tries to get accustomed to. I was often releasing the line later than when the game wanted me to, causing an upward swing rather than forward. When you're in a groove and you have a lot of space to work with, it feels really good swinging from point to point.
I'm only an hour or so in so I haven't "recalled" any of the cooler combat mechanics, such as being able to pick up things to throw at enemies. The gun combat is fine for what it is.
I'd probably be pretty disappointed if I paid full price for this. As had I used gift cards, it didn't hurt so much.
EDIT: Guess it's just me in regards to installing the game. I'll try again later and hope it was a fluke.

Stick with it, as I heard that the endgame is pretty spectacular and decent compared to the start of it. Mind you I only read that.

I can confirm that the game gets better, the first city level is absolutely the worst level in the game for several reasons. First, you die way too easy because you haven't gotten used to the swinging and too many areas around you are leathel, and second, you get too few check points.
But even though it gets better, it never ever gets great. Some times it's kind of good, but then again some things can get so damn frustrating. And a boss that takes time to hit and to lower its HP, that can kill you in one blow, is NOT a good design decision.
I'd give the game a 6/10 at most, and I'd give it a 5 if it wasn't for the sound and music, which is great.

I love the momentum based swing mechanic and I think it works perfectly for this game. Unfortunately everything else seems mediocre at best, I'm only a couple of hours in but it just seems that this game some how manages to be less than the sum of it's parts. The music is a mixed bag, some tracks have a light industrial sound and really works with the game while others sound more like rifts pulled from some cheesy 80s straight to video action flick.
Graphically this game is a mixed bag, the character models and their textures leave quite a bit to be desired. They are not necessarily bad but they are at the very low end of what I consider acceptable in a current AAA title. The environments on the other hand look polished though some of the textures are still pretty weak fortunately the overall design of the destroyed city looks really good and works perfectly for the game. The water effects as with pretty much all current games look good but don't get to close, it seems bionics can only hold their breath for about 5 seconds before they die.
The story itself isn't too bad at this point other than there is not much of it but the real problem is your character is an over emotional douche bag. I can't ever remember actually not liking the main character of a game, there have been games where I didn't care but Bionic Commando is the first time I can think of where one actually annoyed me to the point of me dreading him saying anything and in turn causing me to want to slam him into the side of a building and watch him fall to his death. The voice acting and dialog are also complete shit, I believe they were going for a bit of tongue in cheek humor like in the recent remake of the original but they failed miserably.
All in all I believe the game to be worth playing as a rental and while the flaws are numerous it still does what a game is supposed to do and that is entertain, the gameplay is fun and when I'm not playing I have the urge to go back and do so... so long as I don't have to listen to our Bionic Commando speak.
I'm looking forward to all the abilities in the second half of the game and I think Bionic Commando for all it's flaws will be one of the few games that will hold my attention until completion... gaming ADD can be a real bitch sometimes.

I am really digging this thus far, but I am only a little bit into the game. I love desolate dystopian environments, so its really nice for me.. This can tide me over till infamous is released at the end of the week :)

I had no audio syncing issues with installing it to the hard drive. You can read my review right here (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=8789). I personally loved the game and it is an example of the second half being so much better than the first...problem is many may not make it that far because of the early frustration.
