It took them a a long time, but now Namco is getting around to doing a Katamari game on the PS3. From Siliconera (http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/24/katamari-damacy-rolling-onto-ps3-in-full-hd/):
As a series first, Katamari Damacy Tribute will be in full HD with 1080p resolution. The text says this Katamari game will have a new visual presentation, but the screenshots look like plain old Katamari.
The song list is also interesting since many of the tracks like Katamari on the Funk, Everlasting Love, and the Prince on the Moon are remixed songs from previous Katamari games.
So another Katamari game I won't buy, but I'm sure fans of the series will be happy. :p

I'll wait and see on this. The first two games were great, but the PSP game felt like a retread, and it and the xbox game forgot one thing that the first two things had: they came out very very cheap. Katamari was a game that was a must-buy at $20 (first game) or $30 (second game). But when they started putting out games that brought nothing new to the series but cost more? It stopped being worth it.
I'll be cautiously optimistic about this one. But if they don't do anything cool or fun with the concept (and there's so much they could do beyond what's been done), this will wait until it's in the bargain bin.

This should be a $10 to $15 download by this point, really. Noby Noby Boy was pretty successful from what I read, they should follow that model.

Well, to get a game as long as the second one, it cost you about $50, as they took several on-disc levels and made them DLC.
Screw you, Namco.

Every previous third party exclusive should be ported no matter what company or system. Good to see they are starting with this one. Ace Combat should be next.

I enjoyed Katamari on the 360...but I don't know if I need to play another one unless they really add more to it. I bought the original PS2 version, skipped the second and then came back for the beauty of widescreen support, etc...but now I want more.

Yes. Namco, listen to this man. I want my AC fix on my PS3.

This seems like porting for the sake of porting. But as a $5-10 download it makes sense.

It's a shame -- the 360 version killed any remaining interest I had in this franchise. It's the same game over again, except done way smaller and you had to buy the DLCs to get the same amount of content you had in the PS2 versions.
So yeah, I'll pass... never thought I'd say that about a Katamari game, though.

Katamari Damacy Tribute Is Cel-Shaded For Your Enjoyment (http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/26/katamari-damacy-tribute-is-cel-shaded-for-your-enjoyment/) (Siliconera)Famitsu reported the PS3 Katamari game, Katamari Damacy Tribute, has a new visual presentation. This could have been a reference to the full HD 1080p resolution, but it isn’t. Katamari Damacy Tribute will have cel-shaded graphics instead of blocky polygons.
Katamari Damacy Tribute also has PlayStation Network support, but it is unclear what Namco Bandai plans to do with it. It could be for online play and/or distribution of downloadable content.

So let me get this straight...
This is not the greatest game in the world? This is just a tribute?

The trailer for the game renewed my interest all over again. After Beautiful Katamari sucked so much (I'm sorry, it did), I was pretty much done with the series, but the video shows that:
The graphics engine really is a huge leap forward.
The cel shading is nice, and doesn't mar that original "feel" of KD, but does breathe fresh air into it.
The gameplay is much faster and the katamari appears somewhat more responsive (though this could just be sped up video... holding my breath on this one).
There's a scene of the Katamari breaking free of earth's gravity and hurtling INTO SPACE... this could be cool.
Soundtrack including YMCK is a selling point in and of itself.

Takahashi-san's not involved, and that doesn't bode well for this cash-in.
