Rates are available through a special site here:

https://www.ttgcompass.com/compass/webdirect.cfm?code=PENNY09

That link allows you to book hotel rooms, flights and car rentals for the weekend, and the option to plan for the whole week.

This thread, however, is for the planning of room sharing. Major hotel bookings look to be split between the Sheraton and Hyatt. If you have extra room, or are looking for a room, post here. I'll try keep a running list of room availability, as well as rooms that are full up. Post room info here, or PM me with your room info.

Beyond this, I don't know what arrangements people have, as they haven't posted or PM'd

I have a single bed room at the Sheraton arriving around 6pm Thurs leaving early Monday morning....I might be able to get one or two on the floor with me. Price negotiable.

Other hotels in the near vicinity include

The Roosevelt hotel (cheaper, but smaller)
World Mark (might be condo-ish)
Comfort Suites
Homewood Suites

It's going to be a month or so before I know if I'll have the money to go this year. At that time, I'll be back in this thread.

I'm kind of low on cash but would still like to go to PAX, so Joey and I are looking for a couple who wouldn't mind sharing a room with us. A couple is preferred because it'd be cheaper for all of us if we split the room between four people rather than three. Any takers? PM pronounconnoun and me.

The site's been updated for a week, but my initial post has had the direct link for hotel bookings for over a month. Though, if you were looking for extended stay (Wed-Mon), the majority of that stuff has been booked already.

Oy. My "sure" situation shit on me last week.

Well, it was good news for my friend. His house (which he thought was going to be vacant) was rented out. I'm glad for him but now I've got alternatives to seek out. What the hostel situation over there I wonder...

There is the Green Tortoise Hostel (http://www.greentortoise.net/) that is about 7 blocks away (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=800+Convention+Pl,+Seattle,+WA+98101+(W ashington+State+Convention+%26+Trade+Center)&geocode=5130365825171462992,47.611283,-122.331487&dirflg=&daddr=105+Pike+Street+Seattle+WA+98121+us&f=d&dq=convention+center+loc:+seattle&sll=47.60356,-122.32944&sspn=0.320422,0.048098&cid=47611283,-122331487,18141632985446081962&safe=on&ie=UTF8&ll=47.609302,-122.335253&spn=0.005107,0.010042&z=17) from the convention center. On the PAX forums, it's a popular choice because it's cheap, convenient and cheap.

The other hotel choices that are offering PAX discounts are in this thread (http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=85784) at the PAX forums. The Sheraton and Hyatt have virtually been filled, though the hotels are offering better discounts if you pre-pay for the room.

The three of you should talk about finding a room, find a 4th and it isn't too pricey.

I'll sniff around. I'm staying with some friends about 10mi away, but it's starting to look like their house is getting crowded, so I'm considering looking for a room and/or crashing at a different friend's house.

Goro and Slippy - I'm still getting hotel hits around downtown, so there's still room. I think I saw availability at the Ramada still?

If you absolutely have to, there is a room sharing thread on the official forums here (http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=85751).

You can also save some money with some of the hotels if you pre-pay for the room. However, that's the full cost of your stay up front right now. I still believe that many of the hotels are sold out of the extended (Wednesday to Monday) slots, but they might have some single or double occupancy stuff Thursday to Sunday.

EDIT: initial post updated

So...uh...

There's 4 of us still looking for a place to sleep and the Hyatt seems to be the last available hotel with rooms left from Wednesday until Monday.

I can't afford an entire hotelroom for just me this year and I don't want to cancel my trip because I can't find a place to sleep, which I might see myself doing if there's no other solution.

I think there are some floors still open if you don't mind sleeping on the hard surface. I know I have open invitations should I be able to go (or at least I think I still have open invitations). I'm sure someone around here can hook you up.

I ended up just booking a room at the Sheraton from Thursday night through Sunday night. So that's available if anyone needs a place to stay, but it only has one bed so I assume it'll be floor space only unless we can finagle a rollaway in there.

If you are still looking for a place Slip, that means you'd only need to find a room for one extra night if you wanted to do that. Or astranoir too if you still need a place. Or both if you guys don't mind sharing the floor, haha.

To anyone still looking for hotels, search the extended area around the convention center. I used priceline.com and found the Travelodge Seattle. They had openings from Thursday to Monday (not sure about Wednesday cuz I'm not coming till Thurs) and they are only 5 miles from the convention center. There's a bus stop across the street that makes regular trips down there in about 20 minutes time. Much cheaper than a cab.

Its not as nice as the other hotels that are just blocks from the con, but its 1/3rd the price. I've stayed in some pretty shitty hotels in my day, so as long as its got a roof and running water, I'd say go for it since you'll be spending the days with your friends at PAX anyway.

I need to allow my friends at moofpack more time to figure out if they're coming or not, but once I know for sure, I will check back in here and let you all know if we have extra room.

Just keep in mind that buses close at a certain hour, so it'll limit your ability to party late unless you want to pay for a cab.

I knew that, but its a good point for anyone who may not have realized it. I plan on having Olivia Munn drive me back to my hotel anyway. :)

Sl1pstream
07-14-2009, 06:01 AM
Which brings up a good point. Rental cars are a bad idea. Not only is there little to no parking available near the hotels, there also isn't any near the convention center.

Also, the concerts lasted until 1 or 2 am last year (and the year before), I doubt that you'll be able to find a bus after they're over.

Uno Ill Nino
08-13-2009, 07:44 AM
Ok, I've booked a room at Seattle Pacific Hotel ($90 at night) which is just under a mile from the con. I've got an extra double bed in there. I'm set up for Thursday check-in, and Monday morning checkout. Holler if you want in.

Uno Ill Nino
08-19-2009, 05:55 PM
$45 a night and you get your own bed! And you get to room with ME! How can anyone pass that up?

Actually, if anyone has an extra bed closer to the site than where I currently am, lemme know. I might cancel mine if I can get closer to the group. Seems like I might be the farthest away aside from one other person who's coming with his wife and another couple.

I'm thinking about posting the available spot in my room on the PA forums. I've had it up here for a little while now and nobody has shown any interest, so is it safe to assume that nobody here will need it? I want it to be open to a COGer if they need it, but I also don't wanna wait too long and end up staying in a room by myself when I could have had somebody share with me and reduce cost. Thoughts?

***Update***

I posted it on the PA forums, got a few emails, probably going to make a deal with a guy tomorrow.

Yeah, it was. Free for use, not to take. It was around the same price as the Sheraton too. I think it was only like $15 more a night. I missed the nice tile floor in in the vestibule area in the video. It's presentation, along with the lobby and staff takes Sheraton hands down.

Not to say that the Sheraton isn't really nice, the Hyatt is just nicer.
