Apparently, Senator Charles Grassley (R, Iowa) thinks AIG executives ought to commit Seppuku. (http://news.aol.com/article/grassley-resign-suicide-aig/385096)

"I suggest, you know, obviously, maybe they ought to be removed," Grassley said. "But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they'd follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I'm sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide. And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology."

Personally, I'm for the ritual disembowelment.

Damn your misleading title. I thought this was about Kervokian deciding to run for office. I was strangely comfortable with it.

I, for one, welcome our new seppuku-committing overlords. Even if only just for a moment.

Awesome. I was angry at Iowa earlier, but this evens it out.

Wow, is this guy a world-class speaker or what. The republican lawmaker says he's not actually asking CEO's to commit suicide, but he does believe our country could take a lesson from Japan executives.

That would include making a more formal public apology.

"A corporate America needs an ethic like they have in Japan, where corporate executives take responsibility for what they're doing and apologize to the people of Japan," Sen. Grassley said Tuesday. "We don't have that in this country and we ought to have it." Link (http://www.kcautv.com/Global/story.asp?S=10023904&nav=1kgl)

Wait, it's American bank executives that should apologize to the people of Japan?Sen. Charles Grassley tried to clarify his statement suggesting executives of the American International Group commit suicide in the wake of revelations that they handed out $165 million in bonuses even after receiving a heft government bailout.

But Grassley's explanation left the Republican Leadership even more red-faced when the the Iowa farmer used colorful barnyard terminology to describe bailout recipients.

Grassley told reporters "From my standpoint, it's irresponsible for corporations to give bonuses, at this time, when there's sucking the tit of the taxpayer."Link (http://www.dcexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Once-a-Farmer-41398942.html)

Yeah, that's... that's much classier...

Screw classy. These fucks deserve to be beaten to death by angry mobs.
I'm not going to feel bad that Chuck was crass about it. Hell I don't usually agree with the guy but hes delivering a message straight from an Iowan to the AIG executives in my case.

sad part is... I wouldn't be close to shocked if this guy was one of the ones who helped pass the legislation to remove the market controls that were in place to allow this all to happen in the first place...

Well someone less lazy than me could look up his voting record. Those are public right?

That's why I love politicians. They are a source of almost constant hilarity. :D

I'm sure it's possible, but I'm also lazy.

Hence me saying it "wouldn't" suprise me... not "doesn't" ;-)

Grassley's a fairly moderate Republican. The only Republican I've ever voted for because the man usually speaks from his heart and has often gone against his party on votes. He's generally been more interested in making the country better than making his party happy.

And comments like this remind me of why I keep voting for him. :D
