If this had backwards compatability I'd be pissed for buying the MGS 80gig back in July. Uncharted must not be too far away from being a greatest hits title if they're bundling it with the system.
Ugh! If it was $400, I'd might bite, but this is just a large HD that I don't need and two games I don't want. Uncharted is fun, but it is 8-10 hours long and I've already beaten it, and Pain is a middling fun downloadable game.
Edit: Even at $400 this is too much. . . I don't need the large HD and the games would cost $80 new. . . plus, I don't want them.
Maybe they are getting this on shelves and this will be their $400 bundle when a price-drop comes on the main SKU.

If I didn't just spend $300 on the ION Drum Rocker for Rock Band 2, I'd seriously contemplate this. Even then, it's either get all the great 360 games coming out in the next few months, or the PS3 with these 2 games.
I'm willing to wait another 8 months or so until the PS3 has more than 4 games on the system I want to play, but this deal is very tempting.

Rip-off. Sony needs to stop trying to sell the PS3 at $400-500 and try selling it at $200-300.

Someone with a PS3, sell me yours for cheap and buy this one. Uncharted is so good.

That's at least $100 more than it should be.

Given how apparently easy it is to update the hard drive, I don't get their strategy with continually releasing larger drives and less capability (BC, etc.) at the same price point. But, I'm so cheap I bought an Xbox 360 arcade and slapped a used hard drive on the thing rather than pay for the Elite.

Meh, I think this is just supposed to compete with the Elite. For $50 more you get a bigger hard drive, 2 games, and a Blu-Ray player. It's not too bad if you look at it that way. The problem is, where's their competitor for the Arcade? That's where they should really be focusing.
Edit: Actually... make that $100 more. Forgot the Elite dropped in price.

It's a size thing - a bullet point on the packaging, if you will.
Mr. & Mrs. Average Gamer wouldn't know how to change the HDD.

Nothing apparent about it. I upgraded my MGS Gunmetal PS3 to 160GB months ago. It is a simple procedure as long as you have an external drive to back everything up to.... You don't even have to reinstall your games.

True. If Sony hasn't figured that out by now, they never will.

Mr. & Mrs. Average Gamer wouldn't know how to change the HDD.Very true. It struck me as funny during their presser when they announced the 'new' 80GB version because they seemed to act as though the reason 80 GB were flying off the shelves and not the 40 GB was because of the size and not the fact that they were the only units on the market with BC anymore.
I mean, it COULD be the size thing, but everyone always says that size doesn't matter.

It's like Sony is actively trying to make sure I don't want to buy a PS3.

Once it comes out, you can sign up for a Sony Card (http://www.sonyrewards.com/en/home/sonycard/) and get it for $349.99. Seems like a pretty good deal. This is assuming that the promotion is still going on after November 30th. :)

Agreed. I would buy one when my bonus check comes if the PS3 came down to at least $300.
Edit: And if your curious I am not counting used/refurbished systems in that statement, since I rarely buy used systems.

I don't get it. Why not at least pack in some recent hitgame. A LBP pack would go down a lot better, or even R2. But who the hell wants to buy a more expensive system with a old game.
It's like they don't want them to sell, seeing as Drake is now 25 bucks or something. This is a shit deal.

Fair enough, although I picked up my 60gb version used and have been very happy with it...particularly since I got the BC and a good price.

Unlike the 360, the PS3's are pretty sturdy units... Gah, do you know how much it drives me nuts to praise the sturdiness of a piece of Sony hardware? It's just wrong!

Ja, you gotta give them credit for that much...for this gen at least relatively...Of course, the more I play the PS3, the more I wish, wish, WISH that Microsoft would wise up and put a slot-load DVD player on their machine instead of the piece of crap in there now.

Sony really needs to keep pressure up if they are finally catching up for once. I don't like the status quo for price.
