Amazon is stating they have around 300 blu-ray movies on sales, some as low as $11.50

300 was an entertaining film, but I don't know if I would want to buy it, even at this price.

Thanks for the heads up on this, bap. I couldn't resist the joke, though >_<

Now that I have NetFlix streaming, purchasing a movie seems silly. I already have WAY too much to watch at my fingertips. The concept of owning a disc for something seems more than a little wasteful. Recently sold most of my 'collection' at a local CD/Game Exchange.

YMMV

Thanks, bap. With nothing like Netflix in Canada, I still buy my movies :)
In fact, I would probably still buy them if Netflix was available; I bought an HDTV to watch an HD picture, not streaming quality.

You should already own this. If you don't...well...street cred has been lost ;)

(It's fantastic on Blu-Ray)

I just signed up for Netflix this past weekend. The streaming, so far, has seen the most use. Though, there are certain movies, that I just WANT for my collection. Once I get a bluray player, (well, PS3) I hope start updating a few movies into that format. I really wish they would release some Bluray/DVD movies, like they used to release HD/DVD movies. Then, I can watch it in high-def in the living room, and standard on the bedroom TV.

Aww, shucks. :(

I never really felt pressured to buy it, but I guess there's no better pressure than peer pressure! Right kids?

Do you really watch a movie enough times to make it worth owning? I recently sold a bunch of my movies since they sit there, unwatched. I used to buy all kinds of stuff, but there is so much MORE content that I have yet to see, I rarely ever go back and re-watch something I've already seen. Typically, I loan my DVDs out since if it was good enough for me to purchase, I want other people to see it also. Lots of movies, I never get back.

If I've already seen it, watching it again isn't nearly as high of a priority as seeing something new.

YMMV Skittles

In my experience, movie purchases are a waste, especially at full price. But if I can get a DVD for $5, that's when I might buy one. Even then, I'm hesitant unless it's a good movie. Though I recently bought the My Bloody Valentine/April Fool's Day combo. I guess that was worth $5. Let my nephew borrow it as he loves horror flicks. I don't care if I ever get it back. I think 70% of my DVD collection is lent away, but then again I haven't spent more than $6 or $7 on any given film.

It really depends on the movie. LOTR's, absolutely. Star Wars, absolutely. James Bond, absolutely. Baraka, alone, I've watched 3 times in the last month. Planet Earth, I watched many times.

Now, I get what you're saying, though. There are plenty of movies not worth owning, but if I can get them for near the price of renting them, then I'll probably buy it if I know I'll like it.

Blu-Ray purchases for me, though, are only for "sure-bets". Classics and movies I love. I've had a Blu-Ray player since the PS3 came out and so far own less than 20 Blu-Rays. All great ones. I've watched way more though through rentals.
