Back amongst the sands of time and through the annals of history, World of Goo was just a weird, random concept in creator Kyle Gabler's head. In the coming days and weeks, 2D Boy is releasing build notes, commentary, screenshots, and actual working prototypes that you can download for every incarnation that World of Goo took in its long journey towards indie game fandom.
Part 1 (http://2dboy.com/2009/03/06/the-world-of-goo-wasnt-built-in-a-day-part-1-of-7/) contains the very first playable prototype of the game, complete with hideous background.
Part 2 (http://2dboy.com/2009/03/09/the-world-of-goo-wasnt-built-in-a-day-part-2-of-7/) features a more presentable version that will look more familiar to most World of Goo players. This version can even run in debug mode!
There's still five more parts to come with more interesting looks into how World of Goo came to be.
