So I'm going to be moving soon and I'm looking into my options for TV/internet. After doing some pricing around it looks like I can get TV/internet from Dish Network/AT&T for about $50 a month less than it would cost me on Comcast. I'm currently a Comcast customer and really haven't ever used satellite so I'm a bit hesitant about making the change. I actually make pretty good use out of the Comcast on demand stuff which I don't believe I'll have any more if I make the change but I think with a 2nd DVR in the bedroom I can work around that. I'm just wondering if any of you have had the chance to compare both services and which one you prefer?
Key things for me are that I like to watch TV in HD whenever possible, a good DVR is important because I can't stand watching live TV with commercials any more. I could really care less about sports packages.
Not sure what kind of answers I'm looking for here really, just not sure which way to go.

I have been a big fan of DirecTV for ages. Also I'm a big fan of Comcast for Internet. I switched to AT&T for DSL 6MB and it ended up being a lot slower and less reliable so I switched back to Comcast and I'm moving my phone to their VOIP service on Monday.

I looked into DirecTV but using the online purchasing tool they wanted like $350 up front for equipment and that's a bit more than I want to spend for service I don't know anything about.

I felt like my picture quality was much, much better on Dish than it had been with Comcast.
Also, Dish is finally offering that "Turbo HD" thing where you can get ALL HD channels without having to buy an SD package to go with it. If the channels you want are included, it's a good deal.

If you're going through AT&T to get satellite TV, be careful. As of January, AT&T will be rolling out DirecTV as their satellite provider instead of Dish, so some of the discounts and support may go away.
Also, my experiences with DirecTV were far superior to that of Dish Network. The whole "One Box, Two TVs" thing is great until you want to watch two separate shows on two TVs, and oh, one is recording. Well, there goes one tuner. That's the one thing I like about having a single box to each TV - each has it's own right to tuning channels rather than fighting for tuner space. That and my parents had a terrible experience with Dish, but the same can be said for other providers as well, so YMMV.

I've been mulling over that Turbo HD package myself (currently a Time Warner Cable subscriber).
As far as AT&T for internet... I've tried a few DSL providers and I've always gone back to cable eventually. It's just so much faster and more reliable than DSL. Also costs more unfortunately.

I'd go Dish just out of principle. If it sucks, look for any decent alternatives.

Yeah we have U-verse here but not in the entire city or I'd be all over that.
I think most people who have comcast will agree that its an EVIL EVIL thing. To expensive , quality of HD feeds is lacking. Service being lackluster if theres a problem. ETc ETC

I wish FIOS was available in my area. I would probably wet myself in excitement.

Looks like Comcast is unwilling to give me any deals so off to Dish I go :P Just hope the DSL is up to snuff.

Comcast has deals very rarely. GL on the DSL.

I gotta say, they both really suck. Satellite cannot record a show on one DVR/Televisoon, and broadcast live at the same time. The signal absolutely blows in anything but a clear day, you will lose it in rain guaranteed. But AT and T has great internet. Comcast is a fine cable company, but they throttle bandwidth, spy on customers, and have the most unfriendly EULA.
See if you can get WoW in your area. They have an insane promotion going on right now.
