I was shocked (SHOCKED!) to get invited to a group the other night where it was 4 women, me, and another guy. And everyone was extremely helpful.
I'm usually on as Mightbe (Shaman) or Ixxi (Squigger).

For the most part this guild is mature. I've enjoyed my time with the group so far.

I've been considering WAR, but I dunno. What makes it different from other MMOs? Like, is there a compelling reason to play it?

From what little I've experienced so far, it plays very identical to WoW. What they've effectively done however is eliminate down time. You're not sitting around waiting for skills to cooldown, health/mana regen and such. You can keep playing when you're on.
The Public Quests are a great new take on things. It's like an non-instanced instance. Anyone can jump in and take part, those who contribute more have a better chance to come away with better loot at the end.
The looting system is much better as you get the loot bag instead of an item. The bag usually contains 1-2 items for your class in it so you never have to take anything you can't use.
I havent' reached a level where I can tell you much about the RvR fields but I hear great things

What if the problem is....*insert drama music* YOU!!!! :D
There has been zero problems with folks in the guild. Great group of folks, just wish the rest of the WAR folks were as fun and smart as the folks in this guild.

I just bought the game from Direct2Drive and am in the process of downloading. This is probably one of the dumber things I've yet done.

From what little I've experienced so far, it plays very identical to WoW.
Which plays identical to a ton of other MMOs out there. I wish people would stop comparing everything to WoW. It's lazy, it's not entirely accurate.
The game does share somethings with WoW, mostly that it's an MMO, and that it plays like.. an MMO.
The grind that is typical of most MMOs is gone. I don't think I've ever experienced anything that feels like a grind. Rank progression has felt very natural, I've never felt like I'm stuck somehwere or like I'm getting ahead of myself.
Conflict is everywhere. Right from the very start of the game you have the ability to be thrown right into the middle of everything. You can start queuing up for scenarios right from the second you start. You dont' have to go hunt down some guy hidden away in your city or anythign like that.
Travel Time is massivly reduced. I'd say almost two thirds of my playtime in most MMOs was getting from Point A to Point B. In Warhammer there isn't really any get quest here travel accross the continent to finish quest, then travel back. AFor the most part, when you pick up the quest, the area you need to go to will be right next to you. Also, it'll be highlighted on your map, so no more hunting for hours trying to find some elusive mob.
Gear is not that Important, something that differs from most MMOS. Better gear will help, but it guarantees NOTHING. I can't count the times I've been in gear 10 ranks under me and tearing people up in gear much better then mine. That being said, the game literally throws loot at you left right and centre. you can get gear from anything you choose to do. In each Tier there is a PQ set, an RVR set, In the later tiers there is another set for Keep Assaults. Yes, Gear drops off of players in Open World RVR and Scenarios. The higher renown a player has, the better gear they have a chance of dropping.
Crafting Is totally different in this game. None of this bullshit sewing shirts. You can only make things that help you kill better. there are 2 Crafting Skills (Talisman Making, Apothecary) and 4 Gathering Skills. (Butchering, Scavenging, Salvaging, Cultivation) Most of the crafting/gathering skills are reliant on each other. Cultivators need stuff from Butchers and Scavengers to grows stuff that can be used in Apothercary and Talisman Making. Apothecaries get ingredients from Butchers, Scavengers and Cultivators that they can use to make potions and things needed in Talisman Making. Talisman Makers make... Talismans that can be used in certain gear to give temporary or permanent bonuses to various stats.
One thing you need to get used to is that WAR doesn't even pretend to be balanced in a one versus one situation. There are classes that will destroy you one on one, you won't stand a chance at all. It is wonderfully balanced though in large matchups. Every class has a role it is designed for. This is war. You are part of an army. Going out on your own will get you killed.
While Solo play is possible, and playing without ever engaging in RVR is possible, the game pushes you in that direction at every possible moment. Whenever you enter a new area or chapter, the open group window pops up for a second and tells you about groups in your area. It's as easy as two button presses to find a group for anything. PVE, PQs, RVR. In the Drafs vs Greenskins pairings so far I have found 5 PQs that are shared with the Dwarves. While you don't have to fight them in it, if you don't, they may complete the first stage first, thereby locking you out of completing the rest of it.
Jesus, this is a long post and I haven't even writting half of what I wanted to say. Maybe once I get access to that blog I'll finish it there.

Tzeentch is not worthy of your worship. Instead, turn your focus to the God of Decay for everything decays in the end and all serve Him.
What was I saying? Oh, right.
Fallen Guard are a good guild who are making alliances with other good guilds. There's plenty of room for expansion so join us to kill the Order.

When I started playing (around midnight EST), I didn't see any of you so I'll just hope to find yaz someday soon. The character I started with is a Goblin Shaman named Groobnitz. It's kind of weird for me, as I normally stay the Hell away from magic in every game I can.

Saw you guys a bunch in Tor Anroc last night. Was a blast; great games. I try to give a /wave or /cheer to you folks when I see you, but while playing Tor Anroc I realized that can make me look like an ass if you're sitting in the lava.
So note, no mockery! Only friendly appreciation for some good matches!

trying to figure out who that is...that must have been in the other group that was hitting tier 3 stuff. We had a great time last night. I'd say we won about about 75% of the scenarios we participated in. Had a great one where two fallen guard groups were in Tor Anroc at the same time. Good stuff.

Shodon is the lucky one who got to land on the platform. I kept try to get two FG members in one good, close shot. However, if I had two FG members close to me, I was usually a little busy to think about hitting the screenshot button. ;)

Order players are invited to come play with Grudgehammer on Red Eye. While not as much fun as playing WITH Ghostbear & Friends(TM), it is kind of fun to knock them into lava. ;)

I vote for Dark Crag, but only because that's where I play order. It's also Open RvR and from the sound of it, that's a turn off to a lot of people here.

As I've always maintained, PvP is for the PvP zones, of which this game seems to have many.
