View Full Version : Eminem's Relapse due in May, Relapse 2 later this year

Sandman

The first LP has been slated for May 19, with a single and video premiering on radio and television airwaves on April 7. It sounds like this record will be in addition to "Crack a Bottle," which has already gone #1. The video for that hit should drop soon.

Relapse 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but in a statement, Em said that he's currently in the studio working on that project and it will come out in the second half of this year.

"A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year," Eminem said in the press release. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff." I've always enjoyed Eminem and Dr. Dre. Can't wait to hear Relapse and now Relapse 2 later this year.....this will be a good year for music indeed.

Shit music is shit.

The man creates polyrhythm using a steady beat and his own voice as the melody instrument. While dropping some of the sickest lines in lyrical history. That's just downright impressive.

I remember listening to Encore compulsively when it came out, stopping and restarting a song over and over again because I couldn't believe that he just did that.

My favorite example is "My First Single", but I can't find Youtube for it.

Hope it is less poltical than his last couple of efforts. He tried to get too "deep". Like Voodoo, I like the Slim Shady stuff, just bad jokes, puns, and talking about booze, drugs, and women. Plus, Dre can make nearly any vapid song catchy.

I'm not saying your music is bad or bands people have never heard of suck. We can agree to disagree on alot of our music choices however I've just noticed your very negative towards alot of mainstream artists. One might even say you troll those topics.

I grew up listening to three artists ("mainstream"): blink-182, Linkin Park, and Eminem. blink-182 was my introduction into punk (I still hold The Clash as one of my all time favorite punk rock bands ever in existence), LP was my introduction into "hard rock", or rather, what I perceived to be hard rock at the time, and Eminem was my intro into hip-hop.

After reading my posts in this thread, I could see how you could say that I troll these topics, so allow me to clarifiy. It's honestly not my intention to troll.

At one point in time, I really liked each of these artists. They all had their best albums: blink with Enema of the State, Linkin Park with Hybrid Theory, and Eminem with The Marshall Mathers LP. They all have great albums to a lesser degree: blink with TOPAJ, LP w/ Meteora, and Eminem w/ Encore. After that, two of these artists went downhill: blink with the self titled, LP with Reanimation (what the fuck were they thinking?) - Eminem may soon prove me wrong, but one day, someone showed me this glorious invention called last.fm (which didn't come around 2003 or so), and I began to explore.

Simply put, I was fucking tired of the same sound over and over. I wanted something new and more interesting then what I had already known and grown up with. The radio didn't satisfy: all the stations where I've ever lived played the same shit over again. Fuck, they still do. There's a station in my state who drives me up the wall at work. I distinctly remember one day in summer last year where they played RJA's Face Down nineteen fucking times (I was at work from 9:45 to 7:30pm).

Honestly, man. This post is approaching the tl;dr barrier, but damn, open up your mind. Broaden your horizens a bit. I cringe everytime I browse through someone's (most likely) iPod and see artists like U2, Rihanna, Metallica, T-Pain, Chris Brown, System of a Down, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is... and all these other random pop punk bullshit acts who nobody will hear of five years from now. To me, you're the average Joe: the poster boy for the demographic that the major labels are after. Don't let those motherfuckers feed you shit, man. That's all I'm saying.

I suggest you browse last.fm for awhile, look for an artist that you've been enjoying that's not signed to a major label, and browse for similar artists. I find I get to listen to a shit load of great music when browsing the catalog of an independent label. For instance: Tympanik Audio, for being in existence for just under two years, has produced some of the most amazing and interesting electronic oriented albums from artists that I've grown to love very quickly.

You're calling Eminem shit music (after saying that he has two good albums), based on The Re-Up?

That sounds pretty closed minded. Sometimes people get popular and signed to major labels because they're talented...like Eminem.

I love myself some last.fm (we're friends! =D), and I really like finding new music. But this is kind of a pot/kettle situation.

What the fuck??

Criticizing someone else's taste in music has to be one of the most pointless endeavours in the history of human idiocy. While you're wasting your time griping about what one person listens to and extolling the virtues of your collection, there's inevitably going to be someone else who will explain to you point blank why your taste is pure shit.

Why bother? Appreciation of music can be so personal; just let people like what they like.

All I am saying is broaden your horizons a bit. Would you not be better off if you listened to more than what you already do? I don't have any shit against people who listen to bands that they've grown up on or anything - who am I to tell them otherwise? Why limit yourself to one or two genres of music? People who limit themselves and say, "I only listen to X genre or Y" are retarded. Listen to more and different music!

But whatever. This is how I feel about it. I just don't understand why people want to stick to just one or two genres of music when there is a incalculable amount of great, quality, and non RIAA-affiliated sounds out there.

And what I just don't understand is when silly music snobs get their panties in a bunch because people like what they like. Do I like Taylor Swift? No, not really. Do I give a shit that others do? Sometimes you hate a band because it was the first thing you liked. Because you liked it so much when you were young and foolish, it must not actually be good, and it becomes anathema.

Later you grow up a bit and realize you just over-listened to it, and after a little break it's fun to listen to again.

I agree. I dunno about you, but my friends routinely tell me my favorite bands are shit, it's not a big deal for someone to dislike music that you like. I didn't read the back and forth because honestly, why would anybody? and yet it got posted on the internet for all to see.

I like Eminem. The Marshall Mathers LP is my favorite. The Re-Up and Encore should have never been released, those songs with fucking shit sounds and choruses of "badoing-doing-doing" are some of the worst trash ever. But some of his earlier work is literally some of the best rap ever, IMO. So I look forward to this new stuff, which I hear is more like his old stuff, according to Fitty Cent.

Would "More accessable" be accurate? In fairness to the guy, he's only made one song I can go back and listen to regularly, which is Sing For The Moment.

I will say he makes simple, catchy songs with lyrics that don't require a lot of thought on the part of the listener and his music is probably all the better for it.

Would "More accessable" be accurate? In fairness to the guy, he's only made one song I can go back and listen to regularly, which is Sing For The Moment.

I'd say that his lyrics don't require thought, but they do provoke it. I mean, I'm not saying they're super-deep, they're definitely not. But for me Eminem brings up a lot of good points about censorship and what's 'acceptable' to mainstream society, and how different economic classes of people listen to music.

I'm really excited for this album.

Shit music is shit.

Stupid comment is stupid.

Seriously man, Eminem has a HUGE amount of talent.

*Edit*

Well, show's me for not reading the thread.

"My Name Is" being the exception.

Actually that was STILL one of the worst songs on the album. It's just that album was fucking epically awesome.

What I meant to say was that his lyrics, while meaningful aren't needed to enjoy some of his songs. I'm hoping he retains some of the "lighter" style from early works.

Have to admit though, this CD isn't even on my radar.

Bah, I'm only interested in this one for Dre's production. I'm still waiting for Detox to drop.

On a different note, I think someone has a grudge against Sandman. Someone's been rating all his threads as 1 star.

Wow, you are right. Whoever did that, congratulations. I've never seen anything so exceptionally pathetic on the internets before.

Says more about the other guy than it does about Sandman, for sure. Somebody has been up late trying extra hard to be a douche. Way to go.

Why? There is 14 posts from this month. 10 of them on topic and without people baiting just to bait.

So seriously: Why do you want to lock the thread?

Because I fucked up in a rather embarrassing way in my approach to this thread. Looking back on it, it's possibly even more ridiculous to me than to others.

I too am looking forward to this, to stay on topic. I never bothered really (I was a less pretentious version of Shadowstorm ;)) until someone gave me his greatest hits record then I dug deeper and became a fan, years after the fact. I don't keep in touch with the mainstream much, so I was under the impression that he had retired. As such this is quite a surprise and a good one, too.

Even a bad Eminem song, in my opinion, is more honest and creative than most of what passes for music nowadays. The new video I saw took some time to grow on me (although the "cameos" were fucking hilarious) but now I love it.

I find most of Eminem's club-focused stuff to be pretty boring, but this is one of the greatest songs of all time:

I'll be interested to see how the album turns out. I actually really appreciate Eminem because I think he's one of the few people that has something of value to say in his lyrics. And it's rarely overly repetitive chorus crap plaguing the genre today.

That being said, personally, "bottle" is utter crap and I was sick of it after about the 3rd time I heard it.

Outside of Adrian Champion remixing the White Stripes with hip-hop, I haven't heard anything non-shite from that group in a couple months...

Also, I was a big fan of Shadowstorm in this thread until he pussed out and caved to peer pressure. :)

Easily my favorite Eminem song. I'm glad to know there's at least one other person out there that thinks that.

I'm hoping Shadowstorm's next work will be return to his old form. I heard he hired Steve Albini to produce his next post.

I don't know, I hear he's hired forum psychologist to help him work through his issues. There's no way that will result in a good post.

I really wanted to hate it, but find the chorus to be strangely hypnotic.

Personally, one of my favourite songs by him has always been Bad Guys Always Die. Good things can come from shitty-ass movies.

"My fault" (about the girl who dies after eating all his mushrooms) is one of my favorites. It's totally cheesy on the surface, but a damn effective and disturbing story.

My fault is fucking great. Also a big fan of Brain Damage, Kill You, and If I had.

Rock Bottom is also one of my favorite "I'm fucking depressed" tracks.
